Dh frame, budget of $700ish

Hey everyone, I am looking to upgrade my 04' giant dh comp frame to something better, (yes i just want the frame, i like building up bikes :)) so what should i get? as the title sugests i have a budget of around $700, i was thinking of an atomik, or even a 04 v-10 but then it is a bit old...

I dont think you will get an 08 atomik for 700.

all norco dh bikes have exactly the same frame anyway so if you see an atomic frame and a team dh frame which is alot more than the atomic just get the atomic cos the other guy is trying to rip you off.
even the weight is the same i think (and its not a pretty figure:p)

are they that heavy!? my dh comp is fairly heavy (i have no clue how much) i was trying to build a lighter bike (do you think the atomik will be heavier?), new frame, lg1, mtxs (my 729's prob too heavy!), saints (my current raceface too heavy), thin seat, etc. oh and my frame is 03' not 04' like i said, and a stinky wouldn't really cut it as a 'heavy dh bike' imo, and a faith just isn't for me :). thanks everyone so far :D.

oh and NO WAY BRAND SPANKIN'! i love 2nd hand stuff :)

Stinky wouldnt cut it? Ive done my 08 stinky down toowoomba, and i pick lines like a blind man, seriously, i have not hit anything that has bottomed it, or thrown me off balance etc, plus i beat all my mates if i get lucky. Get an 08 or 07 stinky and give it a go before you make a choice. It is your opinion and i respect that, but i think try a stinky, mine is 18kg right now, not too heavy if you take into account i have not even considered making it lighter, it is almost all stock except forks, and pedals, grips and im getting a chainguide, which will make it 17.something. So give a stinky a go, you wont regret it, plus they are literally cheap as chips!

i like the look of the stinky but i think i am more interested in the atomik, i also like stabs but they are too much.

The Stinkys can ride nice but you really have to get them dialed. I've spent the last year or two slowly upgrading and changing parts to get it running really nice. I found the suspension was the most important thing on getting it to ride sweet.

There's a black diamond single in the FS section at the moment that's really cheap. Maybe take a look at that?

whoever said they are heavy is wrong my complet bike weighs around 18.5 and i can save weight and not sacrifice strength with bits all over my bike

can't increase :(, need cash for car... and i am one step ahead of you ;), wtb is already there and i would maybe give up my stp w/ pikes and full custom for a frame but i don't think many people want stp's over cash :p

oh well a friend has an older a-line and it weighs a ton.
did norco lighten the new frames up a bit??
im expecting that they are still just as tiring to ride

Hey my brothers got a santacruz bullit in great condition with a 5th element shock, its single pivot,single pivot =lighter. its a large but it was smaller than my medium stinky and it is so light. he prob be able to do around 700. anyway pm me if interested.

Choose some light parts then. Hones, not saints. 721's not MTX's. The money you save by doing this might increase your frame budget too. Look for a single pivot frame, as less pivots = less weight.
