mostly for the graphos (mammy, ajay and axela8, justin fox)
roughly on average is it going to cost me to print a full colour a2 onto say some 200gsm white card?
and- with gloss/matte/gold foil/laminate how much are you guys paying for this as the local print stores cant do it and it has to go to melb to get it done? it would be handy to know.
ive get a huge blow out of prices on the net that just arent really that helpful- ive got an idea in my mind and it cant wait til tomorrow to visit the local print stores :p plus i wont get a chance.
And also Frames: am i going to be better off with making a simple one myself for now depending on the cost: im after a generic black model a2.
and with personal peices- more digital art do you leave any sort of siginature on your pieces-eg a low opacity logo instead of a sig?
I plan on doing an outside project outside of uni for my personal benefit and see whether it kicks off.
EDIT: ive had a few people encourage/ want me to do an exhibition but i have no idea with that really, any comments? recommendations for cheap studio space?

basically people want to see high quality versions and variations of that stuff: but its a high risk/ high outlay for a student to deal with.
(Please dont use my images without prior consent- ive noticed more n more people are photoshopping others without asking etc)
would be printed on high quality Cotton paper etc
the gold leaf questions etc were for future jobs/reference sorry about the confusion guys and thanks for the replys.

Our uni has a printing service which will set you back around $20 for a2 gloss 200gsm. Not really sure how close to average price that is but from what I've heard its a little under average.

How many are you getting printed?
If you wont gold foil or a spot colour it is not going be cheap because it will be printed as offset. If it is just a single print and an art work, you can get it printed on large format pigment based printer which will be archival but you will have not gold foil and you will be stuck normally with pearl or canvas

I paid $16 for colour A2 on stock paper (80gsm I think) from E-Plot in St. Kilda recently. Print quality wasn't all that great, but it still managed to get me a HD and open-day props!

just 1 or 2 for now... i cant afford a huge outlay.
the gold foil was an enquiry for future works in my course work as everyone has just been printing full colour from the uni printer and nothing really stands out material/finish wise.

Prices can vary wildly, but for one or two, you're looking about the $20-30 mark as mentioned above.
You need a small digital print shop - I've used Copy Captain on Clarendon Street in South Melbourne (www.copycaptain.com.au) for about the last 8 years and they're excellent. They'll run a high quality print for you. Ask for UV proof inks, too, so they don't fade outside (if that's an issue). They actually offer 'student presentations' too (whatever that is!) but that means they're student-friendly, at least.
You won't get gold foil (or any foil for that matter) for under several hundred bucks, as it takes special machinery and to apply only available at specialist commercial printers - and it's not worth the expense or setup for 2 posters.
You can buy frames from framing stores, pre-made with glass, for about $30 for that size (black aluminium frame). There's tons in Melbourne, so they shouldn't be hard to pin down.
As far as 'signatures' go, 99% of commercial artists/designers (not illustrators) don't 'sign' their work at all. It's usually created for clients (who own the copyright because they have bought it in paying for the work), but in your case, you can do whatever you want.
If it's more illustrative, just run some small, but visible text saying '© Your Name 2008' (you have legal claim to original work) if you want to let people know.

The pics you added are cool, loving the fiery one and the purple one.
For getting a gallery, Id suggest you need to be sort of 'well known' in order to do a succesful show on your own. Lots of galleries have colab shows, usually based around a certain theme (I remember a black and white one recently) where a few artists submitted designs and had a show. As for prices, most of the galleries Ive seen its about $300-$400 a week and you have to bring everything yourself, they just supply the space. And while your stuff is good, Id think you would need a lot more diversity and different types of things to keep people interested.

reply on studio space
do you have one at your uni... if so ask them and do a show for a week or so... other than that you live in bendigo/mansflied/elthem... none of these towns have really any good studio's... best to go into melbourne to a few exhabitions talk to the people and get your name around... talk to the studio owner/curator and ask if they coud exibit some work of yours... get in touch with them in email afterwards with some of your works...
worked for me... i dont try now to get my stuff in i just get told there is an exhabition on and they would like some of my work
