hey guys
im in the process of getting rid of my hardtail and getting a bmx.
ive got pretty much everything sorted except for brakes, Im not sure on brands, and from what ive been told these are the three brand ive been recomended.
They are fly brakes, revenge brakes and demolition brakes.
i know what lever i want which means all im after are the arms.
which do you think are the better brakes?(or name another brand which you think is better)
also if pads make much difference what ones? and how much?
cheers

I think the high priced brakes arent necessary at all.
A set of Odyssey Evolvers or superstar brakes (like i have) can be set up to work perfectly, with some high quality brake pads (i like kool stop's, as do many other people)
Even Hombre's can be set up to stop on a dime, its all in the setup, pads and cables. Keep your cables lubricated!

you have to account for frame geometry,
no matter how much i play with my hombres trying to set them up right they always flex

I just made the move. My Odyssey Evo2 is working a dream although hombre pads would set it off, the stock ones are pretty crap.

my flys are shit
they are old like 3rd hand but they are only like a year old and they stupid bushes have like ovalised and the arms are all loosey goosey and they make horible gobbles when they want to like worst ever sound
they were nice for a while.....

the lever i wll be getting is an oddesy and i know about lubing up the cable regulary to help that it was more the caliper arms that are good quilaity, sealed, fairly priced and easily available. i was looking a about 200 for the whole brake assembly.
the frame is a sunday wave.
the pads i had in mind were these big orange pads my mate has ive forgotten the name but they had improved his brake heaps.

justin get a fly seat stay brake that will work good on the sunday and get koolstop eagleclaw 2 pads in the orange salmon compound they are the softest compound and work really good i got that set up on my new luna and 1st ride they worked awesome.also clean your rim reguarly with windex or water.
also dont buy hombres they are ok but flex like a bitch and odsy medium m2 leaver is the best lever ever

Hombre brake arms flex like wet spaghetti. This means the power transfer from lever to rim is limited. I set them up working incredibly well, but they would need a full going over ever 2-3 rides to keep them like that, and new pads/cables pretty regularly to keep them up to scratch.
Oh and Hombre Fiesta translates as "man party". So there's a man party on your bike.
My flys never get as horrible as my hombres did, I can adjust them up good once aevery 4-6 weeks and I can make cables and pads last much longer before I need new ones to get acceptable stoppage.

i've never had issues with hombres,or even tektros.if set up right and with the right pads, they work fine.

Indeed. Hombres work fine, just with the flys I can spend more time riding and less time dicking around with brakes.

Nice choice. I just got a 2008 Sunday too. But with before any brake can be set up to work very well. It all depends on the set up. Proper have a new brake, but it's new so don't know anything about it.

GET DEMOLITION!!!... the reason for this is they r no different to flys except for the hanger. which has two bolts in it to adjust the stradle cable so when ur out and about and ur wheel gets buckled or slips u adjust the bolts in the hanger and ur right!

hombre's baby.
is it worth spending 200 bones on a pair of brakes when u can get pretty much the same breaking ability with a pair of brakes for 30?
u just have to no how to set them up, u can get minimum flex if u no what ur doing,
i ran fly's then moved to hombres, hombres seriously can brake better.

Shoes,
on a more serious note, odyssey EVO 2 brakes are pretty decent.

I used to run original 990s. They are the fucking best. 1 finger braking through a gyro, thanks to all the adjustability they have.
I wouldn't bother with an odyssey lever either, but that is your choice. Myself and many, many generations before me have enjoyed the Tech 77 lever and for good reason.
I can't run them anymore because the brakes foul on my ruben frame, and I think Fly are the worst company since DC so i'm brakeless for now.
