Hey
I was just wondering where i can get bicycle insurance, cos if my bike gets stolen i wanna know that ill be able to get it back.
Also, is it within my rights to punch the crap out of someone who trys to steal my bike.
If any one knows of such thing as a foldable baseball bat or similar, to help protect my ride, plese tell me.
-Edit- cos im a student, I dont wanna pay more than like 200 a year

Any insurance company offering contents insurance will cover bikes to a point (so long as they're kept securely).
If you have a $5000 bike, say, and it's not listed, they won't pay that much for it. They may not list it anyway if it's over a certain price, but you must list it to make sure it's covered on a claim (think total loss, not just theft).
I have my main bike insured independently through my contents insurer for $6000 (to cover gear loss as well) outside of the house. It's most likely to be nicked locked up at work (had 2 taken in the last 10 years) so make sure it's covered outside of the house.
Call your contents insurer (you have contents insurance, right?!!) and get a quote.
Even independent insurers (who specialise in bikes) aren't much cheaper, but shop around and see what you can get. Some cover race damage as well.

www.middleditch.com.au is who i used. $650 a year for $40K contents, include unlimited amount for bikes. Bit pricey, but i lived in the inner city in an old house (increased fire levy).

If you just want to cover the bike, there is a company doing it now called VeloSure Bicycle Insurance. I havn't used them, but I am thinking of it. The benefit is you are covered away from the home and also while racing. Check them out. Cheers.

They'll only let you insure the bike if it has a market value of $1500 or more.
