View Full Version : F**kin bike thief
Following on from this thread http://www.farkin.net/forums/showthread.php?t=140762 I thought I should let everyone in the community know that I have footage of the guy that took 5 high-quality bikes from our apartment block. Here's the punk.
Note that he has a spray can in his hand that he uses to block out the CCTV cameras - or at least some of them.
The vehicle that he arrived in was an AU Falcon tray back ute, with a white cab. The cops seem to be treating this whole thing as a joke, but this is very serious to me, and it should be to everyone that rides nice bikes. Myself and my family are determined to f**k up him and his whole operation.
Please lend us a hand.

Yeah check out if there was maintanence on the building, he knew too much about the place. Spread these pics about on other mtb sites, and maybe on General mtb section so more people can see him.
You said Neutral Bay aye, i hope someone sees him and follows him home cos i'm up for vigilante retribution. 3 cars, 1 motorbike, 2 bicycles and a burgalry all take its toll on a persons perspective of people.

Get a few nice clear prints of that photo and check all the bike shops in your area to see if any one knows this low life ,also get the fax # of as many bike shops and cash converters and send them a copy of the bike specs and his photo and one of the stolen bikes .

The cops seem to be treating this whole thing as a joke, but this is very serious to me, and it should be to everyone that rides nice bikes.
Sadly, most beat cops are lazy knuckledraggers. Unless you present it all to them as a complete package wrapped and tied with ribbon and a bow, they just can;t be arsed. In this case they have to do some work, so your chances of motivating them are slim.
You still need to report it, though. Getting these photos on file in their COPS system is important as it will present a picture later that will eventually motivate someone to go get this lowlife. It looks like this guy is organised and professional.
ntj, I'd suggest that you get onto your local detectives. They will take more of an interest. Depending on how pissed off you are, engagning a private detective might be an option.
Right now I'm going out to get the roofracks off the car, immediately. It occurs to me that I am advertising "Expensive bikes kept here" rather loudly.

He looks like he knew what he was doing, he mightve been foolish and stole bikes from other blocks, you should ask around?

I reckon you should print out some posters with his image and a reward/stolen/thief type thing going on and then plaster them all over the place in your neighbourhood/local area. Someone may recognise him and could provide valuable information on his identity or whereabouts.
It might cost a bit to make the posters in high quality but you have plenty to gain from the exercise so why not!

Yeah. My garage got robbed the first night I parked my shuttle trailer down there.
Well, I emailed every bike shop in Sydney I could find, then every MTB club I could find an email address for. I've also posted it on Gumtree and Facebook. I'll do whatever else I can (I still have a day-job to do!)
There was another guy in our building who was robbed. One of his cheaper bikes was found dumped in the fire escape (which suggests the thief has a key - you can't get out of it without one). I guess someone startled him and he figured a Rockhopper wasn't worth the effort.
The police came round 3 times. Once to dust for fingerprints (nothing found), once for no apparent reason (they didn't know exactly why they were there) and once to see the CCTV footage. You never know, something might happen.
Anyway, I'm feeling a bit better about all this. Insurance looks like it will be coming to the party.
But I don't know when I'll stop searching for those bikes, we had a special bond and some great memories. A VP Free with a Roco and a 888 is something else! My wife went from no off-road ability to being a decent rider on her Trance, and the Diablo was just a couple of rides old. I'd hate this to happen to anyone else.

I'd be trying today tonight or something . the pictures are so clear but they might not be able to do anything without proof that he did actually have the bikes either on him or on the footage.

If you aask Scott or someone really nicely, do you think you may be able to get this posted up on the main page? Have you checked everyone who works there, because if they had a key, then they at least know some one who lives there

Well atleast now you have so much evidence that when you find this fucker he will not get off scot free. Having the photo's is a huge step to finding him! Is there anyway of enhancing those pics so we can get a clearer view of his face, and what is that in his hand?

A spray can i believe, was stated in OP.
Apparently he used it to spray the CCTV cameras but obviously has missed a couple!

Your a wise man. :)
All hope to the owner, no doubt this crook will be caught sooner, rather than later.
Thanks for taking out the street name, I know the meaning is good but I'd rather it wasn't there. Thanks for asking your friends that live here just the same, and thanks everyone for the comments. I think someone is going to find him, hopefully BEFORE he gets more bikes. I'm guessing he won't be back here until there are some more decent bikes in the building, and that probably won't be me without fort-knox security.
We know his car because we can see it in the footage, but the camera angle doesn't capture the plate. He missed the camera he was caught on, it is a new one and I guess it wasn't there before so he didn't know to spray over it. Security is going to go way up-scale in this place!

i would print out 200 or so, stick them up on every pole near your house/shopping centre/main place crowds attract. Surely someone in your community would recognise him from those pics (clear as day!)
- could label it as bait "lost our disabled son, if seen please call 04xx xxx xxx, special medication required" etc
or.. if you were feeling cheesy... write into Today/Tonight or Current affairs and get them to run a story.. national TV for the win!
EDIT: whats with the time stamps showing identical times (seconds im talking about - unless he moves at the speed of light?)

with yesterdays paper showing the lack of police assistance in areas i think contacting a current affairs program would be the best thing to do.
you can high light how you have basically given them a picture of the guy yet there is still no action
then go on to say how you have been forced to enlist internet websites to try to track this guy down

Glad to hear the insurance is coming through for you.
Good suggestions people. I'll be exploring all of these options once we sort out what is going on with insurance, and I get over this crap flu thing I've ended up with. If anyone spots him, I'd appreciate it if you administer an atomic wedgie (then call the cops).

I feel ya man. The theft in bicycles is insane. Something should be done.
I did a bit of research. Goverment wise. No one cares. In the past two years I had two bikes stolen. One each year.
If you moved since you updated your details at the station where you reported it. You will never see your bike again.
It goes to auction.
They should have all stolen goods on a database available to the public.
I would not be amazed if the insurance has access to such services.
The problem is, is that 'they' see this as petty crime.
That is where all big criminals come from.

Memories are made to fade
I'd bet that if he stole those bikes, he's stolen other bikes.

Nah, it's been pretty quiet. I'm going to try sending this to the Daily Telegraph, seeing they always have articles on cops not solving crime. Maybe they'll be interested, maybe not. We'll see.

Well, mabe the previeos owner had kept the key and used it. Thats why you always change all the locks when u get a new house/apartment etc.

Daily Telegraph, Herald, ACA, today tonight, make an internet site, flyers.
Shit like this just frustrates me. Wishing you the best of luck.
Well, I've emailed the Daily Telegraph, and the RTA to get access to their roadside cameras - see what happens with both.
It's not really possible to change the main building locks every time someone leaves this place. There are so many apartments in this place, with renters coming and going all the time, and keys in the hands of cleaners and body corporate service people, etc. The keys to the main building are supposed to be 'copy restricted', but I guess that can't stop anyone.
Maybe I'm being unfair, but I'll be keeping an eye on this guy over the next few weeks http://search.ebay.com.au/_W0QQsassZkruse_for_deals. Loads of used high-end bikes "from a shop on the North Shore" (Canada) for deals that are too good to be true, and free shipping everywhere!

Maybe a little psychotically written but i like they idea :p . Its good to see you have gotten some evidence on the guy. Best of luck with tracking down the bikes. I hope the guy gets what is coming to him. Could you go through previous cctv footage and see if you can spot the guy at the apartment when perhaps work was being done? You could track down his company.
I hope everything works out for you npj.

Hi, any progress? I had an epic carb marathon stolen from Caringbah on 16th oct, i cant believe what iv got from the cops so far! Iv chased up great camera footage of where hed have past on it, yet its taken almost a month for the cop im dealing with to get onto it, now i find out hes been on holidays till this monday! Maybe today tonight will buy us new bikes for a story!?!? Anyway, gonna put details on stolen bikes forum. There, my introduction to farkin... Lee.

What im thinking is unless the people that steal bikes are a bike mech or at least know what there doing they have to eventually take them to a store, esp if tubeless. Thats what im hoping. The cops have been absolutely diagracefull for me, beat cops didnt even do an incident report, and then the cop who was supposed to access very good video footage went on holidays for 2-3 weeks shortly after, etc etc...
