Well if he didn't pedal whilst bottoming out it wouldn't have been an issue. He was mm's from breaking his neck. It was good front flip.

Probably would've happened with flats as well.

There is no way that was caused by being clipped in.

If you can bottom your crank/pedal (or get within an inch of it) on full compression, that's guaranteed to get you sooner or later.
It's a better reason to wear body armour.
I see too many top DHers running nothing but 661 knee pads these days.
That either means the courses are too tame or they're idiots for thinking they won't fall or get hurt. I'm still curious as to how Garcia did his knee at Fort Bill on the 'cheese grater' wire - anyone see that?
Bet he wasn't in full gear...

Hardly...

Body armour is restrictive and heavy, IT would effect their times which is why some choose not to use it.

Do you mean Matti Leihikonen? He grated his knee off at Fort Bill this year but he was wearing knee pads when it happened, I'm not sure what brand they were but they got pulled down when he crashed and he said he looked at his knee after the crash and had to pull the pad back up over it to hold it all together for the rest of the ride down as it was all hanging off......Mmmm, tasty!

I broke my elbow crashing similar to this 7 weeks ago. This guy ninja rolls much better than me. The injury will take another 4 -6 weeks to heal properly........fuck I miss my riding.

He didnt crashed because he was clipped in, rather because he bottomed it out. Would have happend with flats aswell.

it looks like he droped a chain or something rather than clips or bottoming out

What ever happened that was a mean stack. I don't think the clip had anything to do with it ither though, by the time he was flipping he was clear of the pedals and clips really don't make much of a difference in pedal clearance from the ground, i'm going to have to agree with VTSS350 and say that lots of the cause can be contributed to the fact that he pedalled while he was bottomed. Good to see he came out of it alright :)

Injuries slow you down much more than armour does ;)

full body armour sucks, to bulky and restrictive, i only waer knees because there comfy, and still give me a bit of protection. and hell, its hot enough just wearing a shirt most of the time shuttling. oh and axle8, what kind of hucker bike are you riding, because most of the bike's i've ridden get fairly low to the ground when fully bottomed.
