I ruptured my calf muscle on the weekend and currently i'm on crutches...can't put any weight on my foot at all. I won't be able to get to the physio until Wednesday, so that's going to delay my recovery.

The doctor reckons 2 to 4 weeks recovery and i'm entered into the Yellowmundee GP in 3 weeks.

Question is: Do I have time to recover and ride? Anyone else had a similar injury?

I'll be going to a sports physio at the Narrabeen Academy so hopefully they can give me some intensive treatment...

Back of my mind says I won't make it, but there's still a bit of hope!

Ouch !

Lots of good info here mate and some steps for recovery, but as always it depends on how extreme the injury is.

http://www.sportnetdoc.com/injury/15-01.htm ..normal disclaimer goes here. I'm far from being a doctor. :)

Interesting it says most calf ruptures occur through lack of training.. it doesnt make any mention of borking a drop... odd !?

Thanks for the link, I'll check it out. Unfortunately I won't know how bad it is until Wednesday. Lack of training sounds interesting - I thought my calves were quite good! :)

Really depends how bad the rupture is, I wasnt able to ride for 6 weeks and was still on crutches @ that stage, was 6 months before I was game/strong enough to venture out on the mountain bike again. My was a very large rupture tho

I think mine is pretty bad going off the link above. :(

My calf is pretty swollen - about twice the size of my other one.

Ouch, get better champ. I doubt 3 weeks will be enough but fingers crossed!

Had one of these happen in February skiing. I was lucky in that I could keep going as the boot held it all together for the next week (very swollen but walking was way worse than skiing). Turned out to be a 40mm tear. It took about a month and a half to come good with lots of work, stretching and dry needling to help get rid of scar tissue.

Good luck, but I can't see you doing anything as calf intensive as riding for a little while.

hmmmm...It's not sounding good! :(

I'll find out tomorrow and let you know.

Yellowmundee was going to be my first race and I was super excited. I'm so pi$$ed at myself.

Don't be pissed at yourself...sh1t happens. I was just lucky that the boot held it together for the rest of my holiday.

OK so I saw the physio this-morning and it turns out I have over a grade 2 tear (grade 3 being the worst). Have a proper compression bandage now and exercises to do so I'll see how I go leading up to Yellowmundee.

Not holding my hopes up to high though as the physio reckons it's anywhere up to 6 weeks to fully recover. It's not something I was to rush either as if it doesn't heal properly it can re-occur.
