Howdy.

I'm working on a file in Illustrator CS2, and would like to continue working on this file at Uni using Illustrator CS3. How can I do this? I've been told 'Export' button then something or other, but also have been hold it's what I save it as.

Please help me Illustrator guru's.

Thanks,

I've got CS3 at home and CS2 at uni. I've been working on an illustrator file for the past week with no problems taking it between the two versions, just working with it as a .ai file. What does it say when you try open the CS2 version in CS3?

From my personal experience with the program is that it should work with no drama's so long as you're not working cross platform (mac - pc) However if you're working on a pc at home and taking it to a mac it shouldn't be an issue. Pc's are abit anal with mac works.

Hey

Hubby knows Ilustrator and says that CS3 shouldn't have problems with opening a CS2 file.
Just remember, after working on your file in cs3, to save the file as a cs2 type - otherwise it might not open again in cs2.

Ah ...does that make sense what I'm saying?... bit of a language barrier here...:)

I'm pretty sure that's the important part. The file has to be saved in a certain way. If you saved it in CS2 as a CS2 file then I don't think you can open it in CS3 and vice versa. It can be done though, as long as you save the file in the correct format in th efirst place.

I've got CS2 at home, and CS3 at uni, and I've never had any problems going home>uni, as the newer version deals with legacy formats fine.

I did however have a file that was saved as a CS3 .ai and wouldn't open properly in CS2 at home.

When you're finished working at uni, and want to take it home, just cover your bases and save a few files: CS3 .ai, CS2 legacy .ai and an illustrator PDF.
At least one of them should do the trick, I'd hope.

Ah thanks guys.

Originally I had a MAC based CS3 file that would open on my PC CS2, but I couldn't contine working with the file, the layers and paths/strokes weren't available, it was just a flat image.
