Well I figured Id make this thread and see if anyone else on here skated. I just built a new board up after a year of not having one (stolen in London) and figured it was time. Cheers go to user: Joel O for hooking me up with some gear before he went to Bali to dive. Lucky bastard. This is basically gonna be used for bombing hills and maybe some ramp stuff, ease myself back into it. slides good.

Four skateboard deck (no idea how wide, traditional spoon shape sorta deal, 8.5 +, cheers joel), Indy stage 8/9 frankentrucks (also Joel), Bones 60mm DTF (bit soft but cheap) and reds (free with wheels). Spent 60 bucks aha, stoked.

Was gonna have pics but my camera has decided its out of batteries so that will have to wait.

but yeah, basically post your setup, what you skate etc

hey mat, good thinking.
How do I size up a deck? I'm 5'11'', and want something fairly stable, but still trickworthy. thinking of buying a new deck in the next few months.

Here's my board

Red label deck, Grind king Canadian trucks, cheapie Point Blank Wheels, with a mix of element, velocity, reds bearings.

I enjoyed skating quite a bit but I was never really that good. Mainly just did manuals and shit, Rodney Mullen was my idol.

Current uses for my skateboards:
Bombing it down hills
going to the shops
dog towing me around the block
playing skateboard tiggy
taking the trucks off and using it as a sand/river board

I still go for a skate every now and then when Im bored but don't really feel it like I used to.

Cool thread idea Roasted.

I used to skate alot a few years back and am just starting to get back into it now. Good fun and good transportation seeing as I still need a few bits for the bike :(.

I'm running an Element board, Destructo trucks and Darkstar wheels. Bearings are all smooth and 7.5" width is good for a bit of everything. Tis good fun. :)

I think what I love most about it all is the simplicity, a board and four wheels, that's it. It's a guarantee of alot of good times with mates.

Decks arent like bikes, they don have differnet sizes for different sized people. Size depends on what skating your doing. if you like doing flips and stuff you will want a small board and small wheels. If you want to ride bowls and bomb hills (like me:D) you want a wide board and big wheels.

Stopped riding your traditional skateboard a little while ago.

Got a birdhouse 70's street for bombing and cruising and a shit no name with 'Ben is Red' sprayed on the deck for bowl/skatepark.

Pics up later.

Some no name deck (minus a kick), element trucks, blind??? wheels, Bones reds.
I really want to get me one of the old school fish boards which element are making re-pros of. They are awsome, big wheel, and so very cruisy but pretty expensive, very tempted to get one, til I broke my rim.

How would I go about getting one of those long boards for just getting around and occasionaly bombing the odd hill? 100? 200? 300? Sometimes it's just not worth taking the bike out.

Webcam pics suck. Photo nowhere near represents the shape of this board, rather broader at the nose than it looks. 7.5 at its narrowest, 8.25 at its broadest. So fast and smooth. Still olliable too.

I got mine off good old ebay. I understand what u mean i have my board a the front door and its just as easy as grabbing and going. Its perfect now because the cones in my front hub are farked at the moment and i skate everywhere until i can afford to fix them

I still have a board - Sectile Flames (Bondi company no longer in existance), indy trucks, powell wheels. I don't really ride anymore except to fuck around in the driveway with my kids.

I used to skate the Bondi Mini & to a (very poor) extent the Bondi Vert ramp. Occasionally I used to go into the city for the Prudential Double, world square benches, silver rail, the Pit in martin place & chifley sqaure. I was lucky as my ex girlfriend hooked up with Dave Adair and I got to go on a couple of Slam magazine roadtrips. The bondi Mini sunday sessions were really good, drinking longnecks & skating in the sun. Also the annual Beach Road Hotel easter weekend ramp jams were the bomb - a 4 ft mini in the hotels beer garden (and later upstairs indoors) - complete debauchery for 3 days - awesome.

Injuries, bike riding and friends moving away meant I just kind of stopped skateboarding.

Was about this >--< far away from buying a blank deck today. A few weeks ago I went to the garage only to find my board cracked completely down the centre. I thought 'hmmm, what the fuck it wasn't like that yesterday?'.

Needless to say I blew up. Turns out my step sister was luging it down the street, nearly got hit by a car and the board when straight under the tyre...fuck. As a result all my bikes, boards (surf-boards, skate and bodyboard are at my old man's)

So, can anyone suggest a deck? I've got a cruiser so I'd be after one for tricking and shit. Not worried if I have to buy it online (probably easier) either.

Just riding a Z-Flex Jay adams cruiser at the moment, with soft rubbers in them. carves great, now i can surf down the street instead of having to go to the coast. I love it.

Got a birdhouse 70's rasta. Wicked for bombing/crusing. It's shorter than your average new school deck so it makes bombing a bit harder - which i like.

Impulse buy last night. Enjoi rasta complete. CORE 5.0 trucks, amphetamine bearings, 52mm wheels. etc etc. pics up later.

its a kmart special with a piece of round bar with tabs bolted to the deck so i got somethin to hang onto when i bomb it off 35mm drops! INSANE SHIT RIGHT THERE
soon i will be putting some mavic dee max on (mini version) and a set of 3c minions.
it goes off!

You can't beat the star wars deck, its a return of the jedi one. the trucks weigh about 10 kg (with the wheels) and the deck itself they must of cut down forests to make it.

who still makes good blank decks? I really want a 7.75" Hardcore deck tinted red, like they made about 8 years ago. that's what I wanted in year 6. Want one now to decorate myself.

Now its been ages since I had a good look into skating, but i would suggest maple if they are still around, they used to make awesome blank decks, I had around 4 or them back in the day, lasted for ever! Also for an aussie deck possibly a kawala deck (if they are around still!)

To contribute to the original thread question, I have a dexter street deck dunno the model, GM trucks on spitfire bearings (i think!) with some random wheels, i believe they are blank wheels, will take a photo or two and get it up asap, am getting back into it a little as i find it simpler than riding a bike aorund the city.

*Edit* Mc Pictures, I also changed the truck brand, GT, I have been riding too long :p, changed it to GM, what they actually are!

Kwala went out of business a few months ago and I'm 99percent sure maple has been out of business for the last couple of years.

Companies like folklore and gmta make good quality boards at a reasonable price.

I used to skate in Primary School and would love to make a come back at some stage...(more interested in longboarding though...see my 'whats there to know about' thread).

I have no idea what kind of skateboard I had...My mum worked at a highschool and it had been confiscated of some kid who had since been expelled and never bothered to pick it up. It did have some respectable trucks on it complete with abec rated bearings but wheels were blanks.

I could kick flip (kinda) and jump up the small gap onto my front verandah...bout it really :o

been getting the urge lately to build up a big board again and skate some more vert. finding the time though is another story.

folklore, elan and four all make really nice decks and are aus owned, price is right too. just be a little bit careful if you're looking for a wider board, i think the four is the only one that has a little bit of extra length as well.

i think most of the big us brands are all doing 'team' boards for around the $100 mark these days as well, just find something that suits.

hmmm, I can get a red blank 8" for $59.95 or custom order a 7.75" and pay an extra $15 for shipping... 1/4" is tiny, but I kinda want the proper size I'm after, aswell. pretty cheap anyway. Does that much make much difference?

Quarter inch is a huge difference in deck width! No doubt if you've skated for a while you'll feel the difference straight away. If you want 7.75, get it. My last deck (Santa Cruz team something, still 'round here somewhere) was a 7 7/8, and having been on 8" decks before that, even that change was noticable, although the deeper concave probably had an effect there too.

to continue being indecisive, I just realised my sister's board is a 7.75 and my old one is an 8 (both kmart decks with no concave) and I almost feel more at home on the 8, however I still want it to be agile, so it's a toss up between the two. the 8" will save me $15 bucks too. I'm US size 11-12 approx, and a sizing chart suggested I'd be suited to the 7.75-8.25 range, but of course it more comes down to riding preference. [/rant]

Skated a bit over the long weekend. Was intoxicated for the most of it, bombed some big hills - so glad I didn't lose any skin.

Here's my Rasta ensemble. Got my fucking enjoi last wednesday arvo, set it up pretty qucikly. Pretty dodgy deck tape job. Got some wicked concave which I really like. Even though I haven't been on a board that much lately, ollying a milk crate is no hard task.

Ended up with a Sector 9 'Dreamweave'

http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k207/Whitz_End/Board.jpg

I havent skated for a while so my 'christening' of the board today was a little sketchy. (Actually, for anyone that may have been in the Port Melbourne area today, I had a pretty funny stack...freakin' cyclist cut me off and I buried the board into the sand on th side of the path.)

Turning is mental in these longboards though! Damn thing flys!

Deck is 38" long x 8.5 and trucks are Gullwing Mission...bout the same width as the deck I think. It really is mad.

Im going to work up to it but my boss at work is a skater and he mentioned somehting about timing on Collin's Street lights such that you can skate from the top of collins all the way down to Elizabeth street and get greenies all the way down. 20s after the red rings a bell but he didnt really have much time to explain. Apparently this was the rage with inliners back in the day. Apparently its a pretty wild ride.

I got it from an online shop located on the Gold Coast. http://www.boardshop.com.au/servlet/StoreFront.
I payed $167 for a complete so I'm not really sure of deck price alone. Not the best hardware but shit it does me.

Such a great shop, so much cheaper than alot of other joints I've checked out. Super fast and super reliable. I think I ordered my board on the Sunday night and got it in the post on Tuesday (but then again I'm not far from the GC). And I'm pretty sure they are now offering free shipping Aus wide on ALL orders, how sweet is that?
