I was thinking of getting a giant glory 8" freeride but it seems that giant aint making them for sale in au in 09 and from what i can tell the freeride version of the glory that will be available in the us is the Actually the DH frame with a few bits of gear changed over on it still has DH geometry extra travel ect....

been ringing around few stores that stock giant and about all i can find is a single glory comp in the large frame size I'm 5'11 and the shop seemed to think the frame would be to big for me :( its abit of a b**ch seeing as the shop will do it for $2500 i still plan on going in and trying it out but I'm not holding out that much hope as I've been told that the large size is meant for people who are over 6'2

Well i got in contact with giant about this and there reply was

(Thanks for your inquiry, unfortunately the eight inch travel Glory will not be part of the 2009 range, very strong sales in Glory DH and Reign X have led us to streamline the upper end of the Maestro range to cater to consumer demand, you will see other counties listing the 8 inch bike for 2009 obviously for there specific markets.)

could u import it?

apparently giant will not import them so i guess you would have to find someone in the us to buy it and send it over not 100% on that tho US export laws are strange at the best of times.

The other thing is that from the information i can find the new freeride glory from the us seems to be a DH glory frame with a front derailleur on it geometry is all DH and not like the freeride glorys that are about at the moment again this could just be a lazy website designer who didnt wont to go find the correct geometry specs for the freeride and just used the DH geometry specs still waiting on a reply from giant US on that.

apparently if the product you are posting is worth more than US$1000 you have to pay a high importation tax. you can avoid this if you send it as a gift or a low priced bike.

cheers, tom

Does it HAVE to be 09' ???

If this is not the case, i have found one ( Giant Glory8 Expert ) on http://www.bikeexchange.com.au/bikes/show/100013186

It is a 08' model. It says on the site that it is currently for sale. well im guessing it is still forsale because it is still on the site. The Bike shop is called ABC Bikes in Liverpool NSW. It says the bike is $3,450.

Hope this helps you.

i would go for the 08 it has a better spec than the 09 plus it would be cheeper and you wont be paying shipping and tax

The 08 doesn't have the same geometry as the DH frame, but I don't know about the 09

the 09 wouldnt be the same fame as the dh models. As the dh models have more than 8" of travel where the FR ones have only 8" plus both frames are different if you

ya its all good now ive got an 08 main reason i was annoyed was that i didnt plan on getting a new bike till after i had fixed my car but from talking to giant they only had a few medium sized ones left in stock so i bit the bullet an ordered one while i still could car can wait :P

and as for the geo i was going on the specs from the US giant site for the 09 range all the numbers where the same head angle wheelbase ect for the FR and the DH.

Look for an '08 model. Because of the financial crisis the manufacturers have put the price up by 10% (says my local bike store) And plus, the exchange rate is pretty bad at the moment so dont bother spending a crap load more for an '09 model.

nar the dh1 didnt go up because of the exchange rate it went up because it has teams now same with the stp0 its gone up because it has argyle airs now

nah mate your wrong there. when the 09 bikes were first released, the rrp of the dh1 for example was $3595. this is 200 extra than the 08. due to U.S market problems+ cost of materials increasing they changed the rrp of the 09 dh1 to $3995. this is the same for the whole 09 giant range.

in regard to the original post, judging by the reply you got from Giant, it seems that they no longer make the dedicated freeride frame, they have just changed some components for the U.S bikes. that is why the DH and FR have same geo. it seems the demand wasnt there for the FR, and therefor have totally removed it, or are just using the DH frame and using some FR components.
