Who else is backing the underdogs?
Should be a rippa of a game.
I am pissed off to a complete new level to see that the 16's TAC cup final ISNT only bloody free t.v!!
If your lucky enough to watch it look out for young ryan wilson for metro, 16 and he sure can play
Yeah I'll be backing the hawks. I just hope that it's a close and hard game unlike last year. Something worthwhile watching.

I can't wait... hopefully the Hawks take it to Geelong and don't just lay down as most other teams do. I believe the Hawks can match them and they better!!! A blowout would be disastrous. All the talk in the media about the '89 grand final will fire both sides up I think, probably more so Hawthorn.
I hope Hawthorn win and Hodge gets the Norm Smith after playing injured the whole day. (But if I was a betting man, my money would be on Geelong).

NH_ you are way off the mark saying "no such thing as a close game in afl anymore" you only need to look back at the 05 and 06 grand finals and the were decided by a total of 5 points for both (1 and 4)
anyway i hoping the hawks win cos i hate the cats...by around 5 goals..

I'm tipping Hawks by 14 points, and Sam Mitchell for the Norm Smith.

yes but they were absolutely shit games to watch just because their close doesnt mean its a good game, close means a good watching game where skills are good, all you get these days are close bad watching games where skills are shithouse as is umpiring or a huge blowout

they were intense to watch, great games.
It is frustrating right now watching the AFL telecast.... I can see what I presume is the U/18 TAC final happening in the background, but they're just doing preamble stuff and interviewing people. WHY can't they show the game??? I would rather watch football than hear people talk.

Nah the game in the Background is the U/16 national championships. Looks like division 1 final. Vic Metro/Country (not sure) vs. WA.
And like those above, I hope the hawks win but my money is on Geelong.

oh ok, but still I wouldn't mind watching that, would be interesting. Give the kids a chance to get on TV, they deserve it. They could show the game and still have hours of interviews and other preamble stuff, just a bit less of it.

Thats gotta be the biggest choke in AFL history. Never has a team performed so well, there was talk about them being the best ever then they totally crumble when it counts most.
Geelong absolutely shit themselves...they played like scared little fairies. Full credit to Hawthorn, I didn't think they played very well, but they put on so much pressure and intensity that they forced all kinds of mistakes from Geelong.
Hodge was legendary, pretty much controlled the half of the ground he was in and shut down so many Geelong attacks.
I reckon the bloke who really won the game was stuart dew. When the game was really up for the taking and everyone was missing targets, Mooney missed two easy goals......big stewie stepped up and was involved in all of those quick 4 goals, I think he even kicked 2 of them.
Congrats to the bloke who put $400,000 on the hawks, nice move.

What they should give it to the guy with the most possesions? Because thats an accurate reflection of best on ground:rolleyes:
Hodge was an absolute certainty to win imo, nobody was close to him on the day.
And they do give it to losers sometimes...his dad won it when they lost to carlton, and Nathan Buckley won it not too long ago.

how is that the only game that matters?, every game matters because each game decides how many points you are on and position on the ladder and if your going to make the finals. what a stupid thing to say
dude i played football for 15 years, over that time you realise theres nothing that great about it and wonder why you do it if the gf isnt the only game that matters why are there maybe 1 or 2 other games in the season that can pull a sellout mcg crowd?

Chris Judd 2005?
And Hodge was clear choice for Norm Smith, he was in everything, Ablett in tears made my day.
Geelong are arogant, so happy for Hawthorn! I think their list just goes to show that working together as a team with desperation gets you a long way!

Im a Geelong supporter since birth.
It's quite sad to see us lose, seeing what the boys have gone through, throughout the season. But in the end its the better team who wins on the day and today that was Hawthorn.
They played an excellent game and Stuey Dew was superb in the most crucial of times.
One thing that did annoy me was Hawthorn players constantly targeting Ablett, always attempting too clean him up, it is expected for the match review panel to review Sam Mitchell as he was hungry for high contact all game, clocking Chapman and also Ablett.
Im also sick of the media calling us cocky.
I find our players have handled our winning streak quite well, not being too cocky about it and thats the way it should be.
Imagine if all those points that we scored were goals. Wasted opputunity in my mind, even though majority of them were rushed behinds.
In my mind Geelong were excellent at shutting down high profile players (Franklin,Roughhead,Williams) but it was the rest of Hawthorns team that stood up and brought them home.
Lets just hope Geelong can come back with all pistons firing to smash Hawthorn round 1, 2009. :)
By all means, a loss can only make us better.

Arogant?
What makes you say that?
Working together is what Geelong have done all year, it was always going to be a close game, as it was when they last versed each other.
2 very competitive sides.
2 highly skilled sides.
But, it only comes down to 1 game, and it was Hawthorns time to shine.
Congrats to them!

Compelling stuff here, well done champ!
Congratulations to the Hawks though, and well done to Stuart Dew, the guy is unbelievably cool under pressure, I didn't see him have one clanger.

I was talking about the whole club in general! It took them so long to win a premiership during the drought and they did last year, since that its like they think their untouchable. Like ofcourse the supporters are going to be happy, majority of their life they have copped shit for being a terrible side and now they are dominant.
My comments were that Hawthorns list shows that teamwork goes a long way. Meaning their list is bairly comparable to Geelongs in the way of high profile/quality players (Evidence being 7 players being selected into the all australian side) and through the desperation and teamwork they got on top of a side full of better players.

Ablett in tears made my day.
Damn! I can't believe i missed that. Lucky The game is recorded and waiting for me to return home to watch it.
Last year me and my mate (who goes for hawthorn) decided that this year, 2008, hawthorn would win the premiership. we said they had a lot of developing players and were definitely on the rise, however last year they were not quite ready.
We also decided that in 2009, the bulldogs (my team) were going to win the premiership. we decided that they have a very solid line of older players (gianseracusa, Gilbee, Hargrave, Hahn, Boyd, cross etc.) and that they had some younger players who were playing well but needed another few seasons to develop.
So far we are 1 from 2. lets hope this time next year we'll be 2 from 2:D

I wouldn't call them arrogant.
For a team with a winning streak equivelant to Geelong's, they kept pretty quiet about it all.
They were never too cocky and never went out expecting to win.
The media make so much of it all though, for example; Coach Mark Thompson eating a sandwiche during a game.
The media saw that as if it's a walk in the park for him, all due to Geelong being the top side and at the time unbeatable.
And yes, bloody oath Hawthorn were the best side on the day, im not doubting that and i congradulate them!
In my eyes we will see Geelong come back better than ever.
Next season will be one hell of a season with the level of football each team has portrayed this season constantly improving.
