Guys , i bought a 2008 Avanti competitor 1.0 for doing XC races , it had a few heavy bits on it .

I have taken the wheels (mavic 316, LX hubs , DT spokes) the brakes (LX) tyres (spec fast trak) and the forks (rock shox tora) off it and am replacing them for...

forks- manitou R7
wheels - fulcurm red metal 3 (im a tubeless man)
tyres - racing ralph
brakes ...... either elixir C or juicy7 ????????

So thats the question , im thinking juicy7s because thats what i wanted , but what do yous think of the new elixirs ?

The rest of the bike is carbon , frame, seatpost, stem, bars . It has shimano hollowtech cranks that can be changed at a later date.

thanks in advance.

BTW its the elixir C im talking about , they can be bought on eBay for the same price as juicy7 (approx $250) the elixir CR are around $450 , we are then in juicy carbon country.

My first instinct would be to say J7's, but then I got to play with a set of Elixirs at work the other day, and I must say, I was impressed. Giant have specced their X0 Trance with them, so that must be a pretty good rap.

They certainly felt a little more bitey than My J7's - which I have only just installed.

Go the Juicy Ultimates if you can find them, otherwise the elixirs -I believe they are a bit better weight wise than the 7's. Nothing wrong with XTR either, just depends on your wheel set up.

I have the Elixirs on my Anthem X1 I think they are great but I can only compare to shimano and hayes brakes. From what I know the have better modulation than the other avid range, and are more open so less prone to over heating. They do run a smaller pad but this does not effect them in any other way but being lighter. I would go for the Elixirs.

I really wanted the juicy 7 because of the contact point adjustment but the elixirs are definately lighter and ive heard good reports on the better stopping power , they are only for a XC bike so the stopping isnt crucial BUT if i liked them i could swap them to my all mountain :D

thanks for the input, lessons learned as usual :)

are you talking about per end or the price for a pair?
$259 an end for the Elixir CR's here

they are a far better brake than any in the Juicy lineup. The power modulation is amazing. Nothing like the Juicy's of old.
