Well I bought my first decent bike a couple of months ago... It's nothing too fancy, just an '09 Talon.

I have to say it's such a joy to ride. And even though I'm fat and unfit, I managed to get talked into the Scott 24hr last weekend in Canberra. I was in a team of 6 called "Wii Not Fit" but one of our riders pulled out 2 days before so we did it with 5. Had an absolute BLAST! Even if it did take me 1:40 to get around the red lap... Loved the downhill - worth every second of the climb up just to shoot down for 10 minutes. I like the idea of a 24hr red lap with a chair lift to the top! Hahaha!

My mission now - to get fit and lose weight!!! LOL!!! :p

I'm aiming for sub 1hr laps for next year's 24hr which I definitely plan to enter.

Here's a few pics of the bike (before it got dirty!)

Beautiful bike, if I had to pick a bone I'd say get a black chain stay protector :p

Thanks for the comments guys.

Brakes are stock standard as the bike is shipped at the moment, but I will be upgrading them at some point. I have also put a front XT Derailieur on it to match the rear.

Brakes: Shimano M486 hydraulic w/6" centre-lock rotors
Brake levers: Shimano M486 hydraulic

I got the bike for $1200.00 back in August just after the 09 model came out. But I spent a total of $1460.00 to get some other things like shoes, gloves, seat bag, red tail light (ayups up front ordered seperately) and the side bars.

They didn't have any black lizard skinz so I got the red one, but will change to a black one this week when the bike goes in for it's first service.

For less than $2,000 so far (inlcuding everything, even the ayups) I think I've done well!

Sounds like it mate, great choice in lighting as well. If only I could afford some myself!

Btw, Torpedo 7 sell their version of a chain stay protector for something like $2-$3. It has the T7 logo on it, but it is reversible. Perhaps order a couple of essential tools, lubes, tubes etc as well to warrant the $9 postage fee and you'll end up coming out on top.
