Highest to lowest:
X.0: $rediculous ($450 or something stupid)
X.9: $160ish
X.7: $110ish (same as Deore I think)
Not sure where the 9.0 or 7.0 fit in; they seem to be XC-oriented and I'm really not sure how they stack up.

9.0 and 7.0 (and 9.0 sl) were all superceded by the X-generation in 2003.
[i should do advertising shouldn't i? :wink: :P ]
and how do they compare to shimano's line up, is it a safe assumption that its something like:
xtr = x.0
xt/lx = x.9
deore = x.7
are they usually on par, or are sram better? :P

Yeah that's a reasonably accurate comparison I guess. X.0 is arguably "better" than XTR simply because every component is individually replaceable (unlike other derailleurs where once the body is at all bent, it's pretty mucha throwaway job).
In my experience, the Sram stuff shifts cleaner and is easier to keep shifting properly, but the Shimano stuff is stronger and more reliable (seriously, how do you break a shifter? My x9 shat itself once, and I think Josh's have gone kerblammo twice now).

I have a box full of the old style 9 and 7s.I tried so hard to boycot Shitanno but it cost me a packet so I succumed. Are the new ones as flexy? With the old ones one good sideways wack would throw it into the wheel then pow new deraileur and how ever many spokes it took out.And yes I had all the stop screws set correct.

Nah, they're not very flexy. They self destruct well before they hit your spokes though... I'm not very impressed with the strength of the X9s (haven't tried an x0).

same thing happened to me.... I have a 9.0 and its bent from a pretty small hit, where one of the screw goes in it has stripped out so we made a custom screw until I can afford a new one, apparently x.9 has stronger alloy or something or so I was told

I'm unsure which brand is more reliable over all, however, i find Sram to shift much better.
IMO X7 is better than XT, X9 is comparable to XTR, and X0 is better than XTR.
Comparing Deore to X7 just dosent seem fair to me, but what else do Shimano have to compare it to seeing as though X9 has taken XT? I mean, look at the price difference in X7 to Deore...You can get Deore for 80-85 dollars, where as X7 is 130-140 ish. From my personal experience i find X7 twice as good as Deore, and a fair bit better than XT.

Um, IIRC the rrp on X7 is within $5 of Deore. Pretty sure Deores are $105 and X7s are $110.
How exactly do you find it twice as good as Deore?
And I wouldn't compare X9 to XTR. For starters, you're looking at at least another $100 for an XTR over an X9, and X9s are weak as piss, whereas I've seen XTRs cop an absolute pounding and come out still working fine.
where does saint fit in to this?

If you're paying over 80 dollars for a Shimano Deore rear derailleur, you're being ripped off. Sram X7 goes for no less than 120 dollars.
I have two 2003 Shimano Deore rear derailleurs that i don't use even though they are new as i have Sram X7 which i rather because it shifts better, and i find that i always have problems when using Deore, after 2 months of easy riding they just seem to go out of whack, they seem some what disposable to me. Cheap and nasty.

How about a visit to the sram website ? I believe they hold all the answers of their product there :? :lol:
it's already been listed on order but ithought i would chime in here.
I just got an x.7 setup after bending and busting an XT.
The x.7 is deore/lx level but imo the shifting is a whole lot better. Idon't know how or why but it is so crisp and quiet that it kicks the shit out of my xt.
I've heard they are a fair load softer than shimano though which may be a downfall but up to this point, me=glad i switched.

im pretty sure saint is like XT/ X.9, but is beefed up and is more designed for freeride/downhill

You sure are. Doesn't stop rrp being $105 though.
Sram X7 goes for no less than 120 dollars.
Listed rrp at my lbs is $109.95. That's ten dollars and five cents less than 120 dollars.

Sorry to go a bit off-topic, but did i hear rumours of Sram bringing out 8-speed shifters this year? Or do they already have them, i'd like to try Sram, but only in 8-speed!

Sram's "impulse-shifting" (X.9) would be neat, i gotta get me one of those!
