Hey everyone, Picked this little(big) demon up from Darshan Churchill last night and it's in for a shock rebuild, but from riding it on the driveway im pumped. Im looking forward to racin it at the Illinbah Nats Round and hope to see some of you there!

The forks are surpsiginly good. they get a bad rep, but i can tell you they are plusher than my old 888's, my mates boxxer races and my other mates drop offs, and the adjustments on them are beautiful. I am thinking of changing them, but at this stage if it works its good.

Great piece of DH history right there. Love it.
The forks only get a bad rep because they require constant maintenance to keep sweet, and have a habit of developing leaky seals. Apart from that they are a fantasic fork. Excelent damping and feel. I'd keep them.

Gee, that looks so good. Love the red and I actually like the look of that frame for once. But the brakes, I love mine and I personally think they would have to be one of the best brakes ever made.
Enjoy it though. ;)

Mate nice bike, a Yeti is always going to be an upgrade over a stinky even if its Old skool.
Looks sa-weet. Just go for some lower rise bars and you will be set!

holy slack head angle batman! looks amazing, i think i like the red more than the factory yeti colours. Pretty impressive floating brake too? i assume thats what it is? looks like it moves off of the bottom swing arm link.

I <3 yetis. Shame I really wanted to buy your stinky. Maybe a fresh powder coat would make it even sicker.

Probably sticking with this paint, but maybe A fluro green?
@ Industry Nine, nah you cant miss my hubs!
Very sick bike, Older DH bikes are where its at!
The forks look hot, keep them IMO if you have no issue with them. Hopefully its as much fun to ride as it looks.

Would look mad. I was thinking maybe just a white or red powdercoat to match the dorados. But yeah, upgrade parts first, I just have something about custom paint.

Nice upgrade, how heavy is it compared to the stinky?
Changing that tank of a chainguide to something lighter?

yeah hopefully an LG1! It's exactly 700g more heavy, i dont notice it, the rear end on the yeti is alot more 'alive' compared to the stinky. expecting it to just eat up the forest at illinbah!

I think 65 degrees, possibly 64.5 or 64. It doesnt feel too slack when you ride it though, it does feel super low though, the whole bike feels very stretched out and low, like race style.

I had a Schwinn 4-Banger that was four inches of Lawwill. The plushest suspension design I have ridden, the 4 inches seemed endless, near vertical wheel travel, joy to ride ... I'd love a Rotec.

I agree, first impressions are insane pedalling and endless travel.. The thing bobs less than 1 cm.

Apart from saving 2kg's on a lighter bashie/chainguide what are some other plans to save weight? The XT are light, wheelset is lighter than most and The fork are responsible.
Nice bike, fresh lick of panit will make it sick and some gussets from grip would make it PERFECT

What does that mean? i'm 17 next year so why would we be under 19's dude.
under 19's death for me next year eek!!!
Will need a bikecycle upgrade before then.

Yeh cause under 17's in MTB means litterally UNDER 17 so us 1992 kids have to race under 19 at Illinbah as it is part of the 2008/9 season and we will be 17 next year.
willmc92
18-10-2008, 09:51 PM
Angus, you've seen me, i got like 23rd overall this season, if i do sport is that technically sandbagging? Or am i still shit enough to do it?

Umm haha I dunno aye don't think you'll be alone probably will race sport for just this race being a national and 19s for sunshine series, or maybe expert depending on what Ben told me.

Im not going expert, that seems worse. Im thinking sport, just to round off the year on a good note, hopefully top 10 or something, and then 19's next season.

Oh yeah! They're a sweet ride! Your's looks awesome!
You really should leave the frame and fork together. They’re just made for each other you know! :) It’s seriously the coolest DH bike ever made.
I bought an XS 03 model frame a few years back. It's not currently built, but my bro had it going last year with a DHX. It was pretty awesome to ride!
I've attached a geo chart below that I still had on file.
You'll want to be sure the rear axle is correctly tightened. You need to tighten down the left / brake side pinch bolts before tightening the axle bolt to pull everything together. It would be wise to read through the DH9 frame tech document which I think can still be downloaded from Yeti.
The Dorado is on the heavier side at around 3.5kg, but it does work well. I’ve owned every Dorado model ever made including SC’s, 05 180’s and MRD’s. The TPC+ is excellent and the machine work on the 02-03 model as you have was very nice.
Are the bushings in your fork still ok?
