Well its 100% skiing so far.

I went skiing in January in Kitzbughl (however u spell it) in Austria. I had a choice of doing skiing or snowboarding and I choose skiing because you can:

1: go a lot faster :D
2: pick up the basics a lot quicker (at least in my case)
3: first day I got there i saw a snowboarder fall down the slop and badly injure themselves.

If is was to go again I would still choose skiing as I loved every minute of it and couldn't be bothered trying to learn to snowboard when I can already ski.

I've only ever boarded, and I chose that because at the time I was skating and boarding seemed the closest to sakting/wakeboarding. It was easy as to get the hang of and it was one of the most fun things I've ever done. Wouldn't mind trying skiing though.

Skiing is supposedly harder to pick up, but once you get it its awesome. Plus a good skier will looks so much better than a good boarder, and you don't spend all day on your ass having a ciggy

skiing!!!!
I don't have a grudge against snowboards, well, only the ones that think they rule a run because the crutch on their pants in below their knees, goggles are sitting on the tip of their nose and they are a jibber because they ride the baby rail.
snowboarders are 80%posers and 20% are down to earth, skilled riders. :P

I ski because a) i always have, b)tried snowboarding, hated it, c) love skiing moguls d) just like the options in setup and ride style, race, carve, power skiing etc.

my family were brought up skiing so thats what and why i do it. but i would love to give snow bording a go. yeh skiing is supposed to be harder to pick up than snow bording....mostly because you have to lurn to keep your feet together. i love skiing , even though before last year i hadnt skied for like 4-5 years.....damn moving house!

complete opp, i was agro skating when i went skiing so i thought "kewl skis are like rollerblades, EXCEPT ON SNOW........... and very long... and without wheels." Opp Likewise, i'd love to try snowboarding, so next time i'm at buller i'll give it a go

my family brought us up skiing, but when i wen't back after moving away from regular access to the white hills. i went on and had ago at snowboarding, i think that it's heaps fun when you get the hang of it. starting out it sucks like crap but, when you got you prolly got.

i would still love to ski as much as board.but living a 2day nonstop drive from ,lets say thredbo. dosn't really matter what the hell i want.it's not gunna happin.

both fun, but i voted boarding.

Skiing=Bike riding SnowBoarding=Drunk bike riding
They are both fun but one is much more acurate and you are much more in control.
Can you pick it Boys and Girls?
This is not a serious question and controling a vehicle whilst intoxicated should only be carried out by professionals.

It's fun throwing shit at each other and all, but who really cares? If you give a damn either A.Your a self concious geek that's probably Gay and dosen't know it yet.
OR
B.Your doing the wrong thing.
It's all fun so why do we have to pick sides and get all ritcheos. I know it's fun and interesting, but to the less intelligent it can become gospel and they can turn into the sholder barging fuckwit or the winging nagging pest.
It's all good. Thank God you aint a cripple and enjoy.

If you are asking because you havn't done either,my opinion is,if you are only gonna do it once or twice a year, you should Snowboard because it's easier and you get rewarded quicker, however if you are gonna become a regular to the snow(wich you will) you should take up Skiing because it's more rewarding, challenging and diverse. Like I said it's just my opinion.

skiing for the tech edge.

but if i aren't working i dont really care if i was snowboarding ( never ) or skiing ( yeah baby). Neither seems better, my kiteboard isnt better than when i wakeboard or surf or skate. They just are themselves. Dont prescribe to it.

Just go rip it, & enjoy the choice on the day if you got it available and don't worry about anything else but having that " smile on the dial."

n ive seen a dickhead snowboarder screaming thru a slow area didnt c a chick sitting down and fucken owned her, i do have respect for snowboarders, but the ones u c on videos JP, Duffy etc :P

skiing for the tech edge.

What tech edge? Both skis and snowboards use the same construction methods. Or do you mean more technical tricks? (which I also think is pretty much even)

Me? Boarding usually but I've done both and like both. I reckon skiing hurts less to learn but take longer to master. Whatever people do I think is cool, as long as they don't go bitching about the other.

I found it to be kind of similar, on snow it's a little rougher, not quite as fluid (well derrr). Of course I haven't wakeboarded that much, I kinda busted my mates binding and havent been back on since.....

For sure skiing kicks ass, hey no descrimintation agaisnt snowboarders coming from over here. but skiing just seems so much more logical, you can do mogels, you dont have to sit on you arse and do up your bindings everytime you get off the lift, oh and trying to do flat on snow boards = hell!

thanks for your feed back dudes and dudetts

cheers

i've tried both and i prefer snowboarding. i got nothing against skiing i just prefer snowboarding. it's harder to pick up the basics but once you get started i reckon you can go bigger and get good(sorta) faster.

Snowboarding dude so much easier, and if you stack it doesn't huts as much were wen you stack on skis they can get caught on the snow and it really hurts your legs, + braking is easier on snowboarders that skis.

100% snowboard ALL the way dude

Joel O
23-06-2004, 08:16 PM
i'd have to agree that snowboarding is definately less painful to learn because when you lose balance you start to turn so you slow down and by the time you hit the ground you're stopped so it's definately not as painful. but i'd agree that skiing is pretty mad once you can throw some real tricks and hit rails.

Ever dropped the nose of a snowboard into a snowdrift @ speed? Very painful, VERY expensive. I reckon Snowboards are way more painful to learn. Snowboard bindings don't release like ski ones and look at the number of first timer busted wrists. It is easier to pick up than skiing though.

Joel O

yeh that can be painful but it's even worse catching a toe side edge at speed on a popular trail where it's so packed its like landing on concrete

Skiing has more style to it. Any seen people pull floaty 180s of 35 footers? they look amazing. plus any trick looks better even if they pulled by a hack.

I started sking as a kid in the mid 80's. Got to a reasonable level and then on a trip to NZ in 89' tried snowboarding for the first time. Looking back the Crazy Bannana was a dog of a board. It had a concave bottom to make it easier to go from rail to rail. All it acheived was it made it impossible to hold an edge.

Didn't touch ski's again until around 2002 season. I'd have to say now when I go to the snow I split my time 50/50 between the ski's and the board.

Thing that I hate about snowboarding now is the "cool" factor that surrounds it. When I started out it seemed that everyone was out to help each other. On my first days in perisher I had Dave Kelly and Tim Vlandis (if you don't know who these guys are, they were pretty much the top guys in the australian scene at the time) come over and give me a decent lesson. Now days it feels more like a competition on the mountain all the time and the friendly aspect seems to have been lost somewhere.

Haven't tried the twin tip ski's yet, not sure that I will as I hate hanging around in a pipe or park (OK I don't have the co-ordination to pick up something new), so the carve skis or board will do fine.

i do both... snowboarding is alot of fun but messing around with the bindings just doesnt cut it :P skiing is convenient and faster, but parks on a board is the sickest

you need a "both" option :p

I was in NZ recently with only my (tele!) skis, and found myself missing my board sooooo much.

A board would have been a lot better in the shitty slush they had there, but I only seem to enjoy the board these days if conditions are *ace* : deep, steep pow or carveable groomers.....

fark I hate the gold coast.
