Here's a few shots of our jump park that myself and a few mates have been working on for the last couple of years. Lots of digging going on at the moment. Gotta love winter! I'll post some shots of the local crew riding soon. Let me know what you think of our park... :P

jeeeeeez and i though tasmania was a hole. (no offence) is it all ways that wet?? nice work on those jumps. very nice
Sure, it is a hole BUT, the dirt from the hole has to go somewhere and what better place than DJ's.
Dude, thats just sick!

no probs from council because its in some bush thats kinda forgotten about and used by lots of dirt bikes so they just let it go i think. lots of hassles from pee wee riding fags and bogans with nothing better to do than kick lips off etc. Its out of everyones way so yeah they just let it go (touch wood) and we're not doing any serious damange.
Not that wet all year. in summer/spring its actually dusty but the jumps are set like concrete and are fast as hell.
Thats bloody awsome man. Sickest jump park iv seen but a bit of a drainage problem. I might be going to taz for a bit in the hols. :D :D :D

what sort of size are they? i cant really tell from the pics. Looks awesome, that would have taken aaaages.
what pack is that on the longest line??? 10pak 8)
frozenhole
17-06-2004, 10:28 PM
height ummm i guess they range from 3 feet high to 5-6 and the gaps vary heaps from 4 foot to about 10 foot i guess. We're working on a big line at the moment, it should be finished in a few weeks.
drainage isn't really an issue at grassy, there is only a bit of water in those shots because it had just rained and its all soft dirt where we're building.
more pics coming soon! :D

Here are a few shots of the local guys. These grabs are from the last few weeks. got heaps more for everyone, but you'll have to wait till the new site is created to see them. It'll have some movies on it also. Enjoy...

the majority of the work was done by paul, myself and 2-3 other guys so yes you can do a lot with a shovel and commitment.
Jayson, yeah, big session at grassy after the race, I have next week off work so there'll be even more jumps by then:)
the longest run there is a 10 pack at moment more to come.
To those of you who think tassie might be a hole....I've ridden and raced pretty much eveywhere on the mainland and a bit overseas and tassies trails and particularly DH riding are pretty awesome....try a 45-1hr singletrack DH very tech with sealed road access and absolutely no need to pedal, plus a handful of deicated DH race singletracks, bit of northshore and two big DJ parks...
Inverted
22-06-2004, 12:00 PM
Fuck going overseas Im going to Tassie with 45min downhill runs with no pedalling, jumps like that place and Ive herd the beer is excellent. And its cold so you dont sweat your arse off...
Nice work on the jumps my bro will be tossing himself off now thinking thats what he is goin to do at his trail. Shame the dirt here isnt like that place.

V10 DHer
22-06-2004, 12:09 PM

technoboy
22-06-2004, 12:20 PM

Sweet pictures paul...
I don't come out to grassy for a week and then all this shows up, i love it.
This is my sort of local jump park, takes a 10 minute drive to get there but i love it heaps. I gotta give massive respect to all the guys who have put in the effort in the last few months to make grassy valley what it is today.
Great to see the bowl has been cleared out too. The dirt at grassy has to be the hardest dirt to move ever. When it sets, it sets rock hard and is so fast to boot. The jumps are all super fun to ride and flow really well.
I'm just happy i've been able to be a small part of this great set of jumps. Apart from the bogans and crusty wannabes, there's an exceptionally good vibe at grassy, tassie has a pretty small scene so everyone pretty much knows everyone else.
No attitude, no bullshit, just good jumps and good times. :)

thats a awsome jump park and site. how long has it been around for and are the pee wee guys still annoying you?
mtb_man
28-06-2004, 08:51 PM
It's been around in several variations for 4 or 5 years. It's really been in the last 3 months that everyone has stepped up and put in the hard work, although some diehards have been shaping it for longer. It's only going to get better too.
Haven't seen the pee wee guys for a while, the jumps are a bit too gnarly for them since they've got bigger (the jumps that is)

About 3 years ago it was nothing more than a few simple doubles, that little bmx nuggets used to trash, has gone much crazy, i was blown away by it when i saw the pics on rhythm…
hey,
i was in my lbs and he said they might be kocking it down????
is this true??????

who is you local bike shop?
sounds like bullshit to me....I've been digging there for a couple of years, last year I dug for a few months straight most days for most of the day in which time the ranger came through a few times and didnt bat an eye. School groups come through there, bushwalkers, firetrucks, everyone knows its there.....I doubt they'd suddenly want to bulldoze it, its the motorbikes they dont want there.....they'd a have abig group of shitty as hell riders if the bulldozers ever came anywhere near it
frozenhole
29-06-2004, 04:58 PM
yeah sounds like a lot of bullshit to me. if they even tried to bulldoze it, it would just fuck the whole palce up. not really worth the time or money. and all the dirt would wash down onto the highway next time it rained.
oh yeh, if anyone tries to flog you off some fox gloves, bell helmet, and some lizard skins, sony minidiscman, minidiscsand car kit let me know. my car got broken into and they took all my shit. bogan crack heads

kurt you are gay
Hey, this is what i heard from the BMXer that works in there
frozenhole
29-06-2004, 11:06 PM
well he is gay then. funny how someone at the opposite end of the state would know something like that when we're there most days and havent seen or heard from anyone. top call
well i was just asking if it was true!
manny24
30-06-2004, 12:17 AM
didnt it get bobcat'ed a while ago?
V10 DHer
30-06-2004, 08:38 AM
the only real damage done to grassy was a couple of shit head inbred little bogans that smashed everything to bits a year ago....never been touched by a bob cat.
and yeah it amazes me that some BMXer in devonport thinks he knows whats up at jumps built by and for MTB's at the other end of the state.....grassy aint going anywhere, even if it was ever bulldozed we'd just use all that fresh soil to build it all up again...
paul-did they break in at the convention centre car park? I better stop leaving all my shit in the car
manny24
30-06-2004, 09:36 AM
i know its on no-mans-land, but surely with all the work thats gone into it, the cult following and a dedicated website, the council would 'recongnise' it somehow offically? wasnt the tarona jumps ok'ed by the councils?
frozenhole
30-06-2004, 12:37 PM
funny how rumours start about grassy and they all stem from people who have nothing to do with the place. crazy
nah it was outside my house. recovered my helmet and shinguards so thats ok. wankers stole a pair of fox gloves instead of a $300 ski jacket. hopefully insurance will be cool. :?
i might head out this arvo and do some digging. if not i'll be there tomorrow! perfect weather for it :)
Dirt Devil
30-06-2004, 04:03 PM
wasnt the tarona jumps ok'ed by the councils?
Yep, Taroona has been cleared by the council. The site used to be an old tip so it's too unstable to build on there, plus they saw all the work that had been done and left us to it.
manny24
30-06-2004, 11:19 PM
plus they saw all the work that had been done and left us to it.
so then surely the same could be worked for the GV jumps? it would be a shame to see them get bull dozed one day

Got a map handy? No? Well grab one. See how Hobart is way down south, and Penguin is all the way up in the NW corner. Now look at the scale in the corner of the map.... that's a long way.

Dirt doesn't move itself, you gotta scare it into shape with a shovel. Grassy is the result of a good bunch of people doing lots of scaring, for a long time.
Sometimes the dirt scares right back, hence my busted wrist, nasty Grassy dirt...
