Snowboarding in Australia

hmm i guess when i come over in july that your winter will be in full swing (not that cold) anyways, what is the scene like in aus? coming from whistler as my local mounatin i'm spoiled :wink: hmm anyways... i mostly ride park and powder... since i don;t realy think there is much of the later in aus... what mountains have the best or any parks at all?

whats the level of them? have s-rails/cboxes/huge kinded rails migrated over the water? just wondering... any big jumps? whatever you get the point...

sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the snow in aus isnt even in the same ball park as whister. sometimes it feels like your wake boarding rather than skiing cause the snow is so slussy.

it can be pretty fun if you have the right conditions. 4 jumps/rails/halfpipe i would say that perisher would be the go and at perisher you can have drops every 10m down the side of harder runs (anything from 4 to 15 feet maybe higher). falls creek is a cool place to ski and has a park with a half pipe and rails when theres a enough snow.

dont know much a thredbo though

depends where your coming to. NSW, VIC, TAS, etc etc.. If you think/talk about a mt. like ...Thredbo, awesome snow in aus (located in new south whales) or mt buller in victoria which is pretty el cheapo. I usually go to Falls Creek in Vic.

If you're going to be in Sydney then Perisher is probably the go. they've got a pretty decent pipe, a few rails (not huge) and they usually set up some big jumps (tabletops) on front valley for freeride events. Sorry to tell you but forget powder. Our powder days happen about twice a season and they track out within hours.
For steeps (relatively speaking) Mt Hotham is good and you can fly there direct from Sydney, they don't have much park action though.

perisher last year had a 12metre rail, and the year before a huge double rainbow but that disapeared, thredbo has a 8m rail and heaps of 3 n 2 m rails, jumps are fucken ordinary it would probaby be best to go off somewhere n build your own.
