View Full Version : Spammers!

I have noticed that there has been a flood of spammers on here in the last couple of weeks, and they are really starting to piss me off (and most probably others on here too). As they are all on new accounts, maybe we should put a question on the sign-up form.

I know that observedtrials.net has the question "what is the biggest French trials bike manufacturer", or something like that, so maybe we could have something MTB related. It doesn't need to be a difficult question, just something to stop spammers who know nothing about Mountin bikes signing up.

Does anybody have question that could be used? The only problem is that some genuine people might not be able to answer it if it is too dificult..

What are everybody's thoughts on this? I'm not sure if it is really plausible but I just thought I would make a suggestion.

I'd say for the question put something about Sam Hill.

But I don't think I will work. As the signing up member/spammer has access to Google, the answer can be found with just a simple few clicks.

I'd say just have a button somewhere [maybe under the DP somewhere] that just says 'report as spammer' and just that get sent to the Mods and they can deal with it/ban them/kill them. Rather then when a spammer makes a stupid spam thread, people won't just keep replying and bumping the thread.

Oh my bad, that wasn't there when I signed up:rolleyes: Maybe it could be changed to something like THISISTC suggested though? i.e. what is XC, DH, DJ. A report spammer button could work too, but they usually get banned straight away anyway.

What about the new people that dont know what XC,DH etc are?
There is a report button, its the red triangle next to the avatar.

maybe the question should just be someting like 'what brand bike do you ride'
or something. although this might be too easy to hack, you just need a list of all the known bike brands, high end, or low end.
