Can anyone recommend brands (and prices) for a decent rear hub for singlespeed urban/dirtjumping ? i.e. the ones with thread-on BMX freewheels, not converted cassettes
DMR Revolver hub is serving me well, a strong cromo axle runs through sealed cartridge bearings. Around $150 I think they are.
Tuffneck do a cassette singlespeed hub with disc mount, 10mm boltup, for around $100 from memory.
Personally, I'd reccomend you go for a cassette system, cheaper and easier to play around with gear ratios.

Cool. By cassette singlespeed hub you mean a normal hub thats been spaced, like with the DMR SS kits, or does such a thing exits with a really really small cassette boss for one sprocket?
The latter. A fairly narrow cassette spline, so you can still adjust your chainline by a few mm, but the flanges are usually spaced to give you equal spoke lengths.
Another option, if you have a spare Shimano hub, and like to tinker... http://www.farkin.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=11138
