Farkin.net's resident canadian Techno Destructo has been hard at work exhaustively testing lighting systems (http://www.farkin.net/page.php?p=630415fcdffa33f073e44d4449c4afc5) to provide you with the know-how to pick up the right lighting system for these long winter nights.

Discuss the series here as more articles and reviews appear.

Good article techno. Wouldn't mind getting in to some night riding but never been bothered to get some lights. It's FFrrreezzing though in winter.

Thanks Nathan! Wait til you see the next articles... this was just the warm-up...

Speaking of which, night riding in the winter is the BEST time! You can charge as hard as you want, and the cold air will keep you just the perfect temperature! No more sweaty gear! 8)

Hi Guys,

I have just been dealing with this myself. I wanted to do DH and XC at night I had a look at all the systems avaliable off the shelf. However I found that these did not really suit my needs, being DH at night. So I sat down with two of my mates and together we nutted out a system. I run 2x20 watt globes with a 10 degree spread, we wired switches into the lines to enable turn off and turn on. Our batteries are 1/2 d size 12V DC packs x2 3500mAh. These fit nicely into a camel pack even a small one.

We tested them for the first time 5 days ago, it was awesome it was like a whole new sport. The speed that we were able to travel at didn't really differ from day riding. We are off on another adventure tonight....hangin.

We did have to do quite a bit of research on batteries and smart charges etc. There is nothing avaliable off the shelf that we were looking for so we made them (including charger setup). The total cost was under $200 AUD including all mounting for helmets etc (total system).

If anyone is interested let me know I can then inform you of our system parts etc....................Its easy to put together (not Rocket Science) non of my mates are electricians or electrical engineers. Any monkey can do it, if shown how.

Anyway hope this gets that spark going...............night riding rocks!!
