Bass Guitarists - Question/Tips

I know this may well belong in the Guitar thread not far below. Anyways I just started learning guitar (Electric/Acoustic) and it dawned on me that I would like to play bass.

I was wondering if anyone knew of some good online lessons/resources or books to teach BASS beginner techneque/basics? Any tips would be appreciated too :)

I'm not too serious about playing guitar or bass, just fun stuff; but I would like to be half decent at it :P

i dunno any online things but try and get into the habit of fingering rather than useing a pick.

not sure of many online lessons but you could search for victor wooten, he has a few lessons on his site (god of all bass players), slap.
the other tip i could give you (having gone from guitar to bass) is the main difference between guitar and bass is that on the bass you use flatter (left hnd) fingers than guitar, that is you shouldn't be using the tips of your fingers as much. My teacher said that that is one of the main problems when people go from guitar to bass, it gives a cleaner sound and improves speed a little.

great songs to learn (from tab or by ear) for your finger exercises are


Play all these songs with your fingers, screw using a pick for now. These are semi-easy songs, but really push you to learn quickly.

Anesthesia (pulling teeth) -metallica
Around the world -Red hot chilli peppers
Bro Hymn Tribute -pennywise (this song is awesome to learn finger picking timing)
Four Horsemen -Metallica (learning triplets)
