How would I go about doing this on a fork with a 1.5" steerer tube?
There seems to be a few parts for doing it on 1-1/8 forks but I can't find any for 1.5.... although I can't say I'm surprised.
Has anyone drilled a hole in their top cap and star nut and then run the cable through that?

Try using the bolt from the bmx headlocks (they come with a hole for ya cable/hose), a standard top cap and a custom bottom cap/nut.

I read an article by Aaron Chase saying that he just drilled a hole in his top cap and cut one tab off each level of the star nut (if that makes sense?) More room for the cable in your big stereeereeer too, although id put somethin around the cable so the starnut doesn't try and cut the cable a new one :o I'm planning on it for my park bike, seems easy/cheap/good idea.
Good enough for Chase, good enough for us.

Yeah, there's bags of room to drill the star nut and cap so I reckon I'll just do that.

Too right.
Use a headlock, preload your bearings then tighten up the stem. Remove headlock, and now you have a gaping hole you could fit anything down ;)

That's what I did to mine:

The starnut eventually inverted and seeing as I can't barspin I didn't do it again.

I guess if you were using it for the sole purpose of bearing preload, you could just use a big long bolt and a couple of washers :?:
