Hmm, Try hot water with a little bit of dishwashing detergent and rub. Have you ever washed dishes? It's a lot like that. :P
If that doesnt work try window cleaner or methylated spirits / isopropyl alcohol and rub. You probably got it on your pads now so clean then thoroughly as well. Maybe give them a light sand.

Yep, WD-40 is more like an oily solvent than a lubricant. Its for unseizing rusted parts and dissolves lubricants!

Use RP-7 instead.
(Sorry I have no proper contributions... :( )

A light sand might help get the grip back. Use proper lube on your chain not WD-40.

yeah, the best way to sand your rims though, is to take off the tire and get some FINE sandpaper and put the wheel back in the dropouts (without the tire), pedal and hold the sandpaper against the rim.

whats so wrong about using wd 40 and rp ?
just that its for loosening parts ?

It's not a lubricant, it's a penetrant (or something?) designed to penetrate (duh) between seized parts and allow them to be moved - it isn't designed to remain there as a permanent lubricant like grease or oil.

It's probably all gone off your rims, but I'd say it would still be on your brakes.

glad you got it sorted.
I generally use acetone or metho on rims and pads, and also sandpaper my pads (use somthing fine) when they ocasionally get covered in dust and crud.
If your rim surfaces are no longer smooth, and you want rim brakes that actually work, use wet-dry and spin the wheels while holding the sandpaper against the rim.
Keep innox, WD-40 etc etc away from your bike. It is a solvent for grease and oils and will completely remove all lube from your parts. It is way too thin to function as a lubricant and will leave your parts as good as dry. If you have it in your hubs or BB - pity help them. Get them cleaned and repacked immediately. It does about as much damage as just spraying desreaser in there.....

wd-40, the wd standing for water dispersant main purpose is that of dispersing water.
It goes on and "disperses" or gets rid of the water then evaporates. So your chain will be nice n freely moving for 10 mins then will dry out and creak like a mofo.
Best stuff I've used is some teflon coating lube stuff a mate had thats sposed to like form a coating over the chain, but its hell expensive. In our cheap bogan adventures we found that fish oil works quite well as a chain lubricant lol, as long as you dont mind a faint smell of fish

Clean it with alcohol [not the type you drink], sand it, alcohol it again. Plus your pads will have that WD40 shit all over them also, so sand them too. Go for a short downhill on the road applying your 'VEEE" brakes all the way to the bottom. Then if they still make noise or don't pull up, do the decent again but spray water from your drink bottle all over the brakes half way down the hill, this always works.

well that's pretty much covered it.
use a proper lube..
all these WD's and RP's are not lubricants..
basically they will penetrate the area or surface. they will actually encourage rust after use.. so while it all seems like a great idea and is convenient it's not a great idea. lesson learnt.
Iso-Alcohol works well to get it off as you have found out.
also Carby cleaner would do the trick too.
seeing as you lover Super cheap..
good to see that people are switched on, on this forum, I'm impressed,
Carby cleaner kicks arse... if you ever want something removed, use it. Oil, sticky residue, paint, skin, mucous lining of your airways, etc etc.

i normally use metho for my rims, and or boil your brake pads, it will get most of the shit off them... just dont let them sit in the bottom of the pot, cause it will be to hot.

well i ive just finished my 2 week trial of using wd-40 as a chain lube, as Daver initiated. i dont remember which thread we discussed it in, but the idea was daver swore by it, and i was skeptical (spelling?)
my conclusions: daver, WTF are u talking about?
it lasted sweet FA and just stripped my chain lean in minutes. sure i has little grit on the chain after a ride, but i also had stiff links and prematurely worn chain
sorry mate, i usually take ur advice pretty well, but not on this one. back to the pro-link for me, best stuff ive ever used. cheers

cransy-69... you're a member here for all of 24 hrs and yYour first three posts are not only a total waste of time BUT they also break Farkin rules by your use of the homophobic. It is NOT okay to use the word GAY just to describe something you don't like.
No iffs, buts or maybes. Either read our rules and stick to them or it's by-bye for you.
Oh yeah, and try having a look at how old this thread is before you dig it up. THREE MONTHS! If he hasn't got the WD40 off his rims by now then he doesn't deserve the help.
