ive searched but i cant find a topic that answers my questions... i can get semi close but yeah i need help...
I am destroying my shins, anyone that rides with me will know what i mean:P so i need help, choosing a shin pad that has an open back preferably or a very well ventilated one... i had fox they were shit the neoprene ones... so i need something light with hard plastic stopping the pedals whether it is under a layer of fabric or on top i dont care... i want light ones and strong and breathable...
^
that prolly doesnt make sense much so ill sum it up
i need shinnies but they must be
--light
--open at back (really really well ventilated
--not to expensive (ie not insanely high prices)
--preferably just shin guard
--hard plastic somewhere...

Have a look at the Hoots freeride shins
Here's the link for the armour and check them out http://www.hootsgear.com/armor_goods.html
"The toughest most protective shin on the market is light and breathes!" that is a quote from what it says about them so they sound like what ur looking for... they also have a strap so u can connect them with the Hoots knee guards

mmm, if u want the knees and shins, raptors are good for ventalation and have open backs, but they fall apart and are gimmick in my opinion. lizard skins shins are really good, and are made of a mesh material, which will breathe superbly. 661 shinpads are better to me, as they are warmer and protect my calfs, but if i was you have a look at the lizard skin.

If you have expendible cash, get some Roach Rally FR's and remove the knee cap. I've found that overall the Roach is a good pad, but the knee protector is a little awkward! The shin protector is awesome, vented and stiff, and it's too bulky!

i agree with the roach call. they are damn good, and you can leave them on all day and not notice them, they just don't interfere with movement or anything.
i realise that you don't need knee protection, but speaking from experience, if you hit something and it damages some ligaments, you are going to either be thankful that you shinnies had knee protectors, or wish that they did have.
the roachs go for about $100, but i swear by them.
Why not try some soccer shin pads. They are everything you want, and may cheaper than brand name MTB pads

i've got a set of sixsixone shinnies, they are neoprene, have a massive plasticc shell covering the entire shin, cost me about 60 bucks, only problem is they dont have an open back, still breathe pretty bloody well considering, i would consider selling if you're interetsed as i want some knee shin combos for DH, pm me for pics!

ive got a pair of xtrskns (think thats how its spelt anyway.. )
i got these things about 6-7 years ago, and they're still going strong
saved my ass on many occasions!
i can hit myself in the shin with a cricket bat and take it (within reason)
they've got a nice thick pice of plastic thats moulded to the shape of your shin, then between that and your shin is a thick sheet of this silicon type sponge
they're shin only, but dont have any venting on the back...

lol i did that for a while. it looks so stupid. but it does work! just wear some nike leg things over the top or some of those CTR type things that just go over the top of it to make it look better. but for a cheap option its pretty good.
