to me both bars look and feel very similar
same rise and sweep as each other
both taperwall bars and both similar weights

are either answer protapers
or Easton EA70 monkeybar riser bars
much better than each other

Both bars are made out of Easton EA70 aluminium. If they both have the same bend, just get the cheapest one.

Answer came up with the protaper first I have been told then Easton copied them. I would go the Answers.

I ride on the Pro Tapers, they are absolutely amazing, and seem to have a better feel than the Easton's.... plus the Answer's Gold colour looks pimp on a black bike!!

Protapers have a tiny bit more sweep than the Easton bars, I'd base your decision on that (and whatever you can get cheaper) seeing as both of them are light and very strong.

are the ea 70 oversized or not because if they are oversized they would be stronger aswell as having an oversized stem would be a very stiff strong combo

For a long time Easton has made Answer bars and AFAIK they still do. The new silver ProTapers look seriously cool, and they have a much greater chance of matching your bike than the gold ones.

OS bars and stems are stiffer, but need to be heavier to be as strong as standard size ones - the greater size change leads to stress risers.

the protapers have the wank factor and they look sweet. From the reviews i've seen though at least check out the titanium bars for 100 bucks in the for sale forum here, they sound like a good buy!

Not really, the larger diameter means that you can have considerably thinner walls, and if you taper them gradually (as most bar manufacturers do) there shouldn't be any problem. Most OS bars ARE heavier, but that's not necessarily a trait of the system in general - that's due to how it's made.

I always thought that the bars are the same, i thought easton made the protapers for answer? I use answers because they are cheaper, and the saturn grey ones look uber nice.

What S. said is right. The shear force required to snap a bar is related to the cross sectional area of the bar, so the larger the diameter the thinner the wall thickness can be to achieve the same area.

Damn straight. I ride azonics on;y because it's the only bar that feels right for me- the ends bend upwards. But when i ride protapers i struggle to get used to them because they are a lot flatter

and i am the opposite i prefer a flater bar rather that the huge sweep/rise ones. tahts why mine is rolled back most of the way rather that upright or gull wing sytle which i hate. but ah well. just try out the different bars on different bikes and see which one you like. chances are you will just get used to whichever one you buy anyway.

looks like protapers get a good rap all round

but i'm looking also at the EA70 riser monkeybar
in either 1.5" rise or 2" rise

as i can get a 1.5" rise monkeybar for the same price as protapers

were $170 reduced to $130

cheers

I have an easton EA 70 on my XC rig and it's fairly flexy- i'd be scared running it on a DH bike. And $170 is rediculous for bars- from memory the EA 70s were $120 sticker price when i got them.
