Here is my .243 freshly built and ridden yesterday for the first time. I hope to race some DH on it and maybe a little trail work too. Thanks to For the Riders for hooking me up and helping me dial it in. Its a blast to ride.
Enjoy

The Boxxers are 02 World Cups which had the Ti-nitride coating.

Riderigid, why are you over 243's?

Your opinion has been noted and forgotten. You're either with or us or you're riding a piece of crap. .243s forever.

i am over them because they are overrated. yes they are nice bikes but it seems that every man and his dog is getting one. also, when eople see one they are like "omigod omigod that is fully siczor" over it

i am over them because they are overrated.
I've spoken to quite a few people that have said ".243 hype is unjustified", but most of them are pretty much converted when they have a ride of one. For DJ/urban, with a short travel fork, the angles/dimensions are pretty much dialled. Chuck a longer fork on it, and they'll take DH/huck abuse with aplomb. They're strong as you'd ever want a bike to be... albeit, you pay for this in weight. But, and the sweetest thing, is probably the price they come in at, for the above.

Alas, opinions will be opinions, you don't have to like them, but there are many many reasons why people do like them.

Thought I'd finally reply.
Naz, your bike was pretty much the inspiration for the boxxers going on the 243.
Boxxers are 02 WC's.
Ride Rigid, these frames have an excellent build quality and are as Rik said, a bargain. Your more than welcome to ride it if you are up this way and then your opinion will be a more valid one.
Heres my little "review".
I'm a smallish build and the short wheelbase and lighter frame (than my old dually) really helped when cornering. Its quick and responsive even with the boxxers. The head angle sits at about 69 degrees. I noticed the acceleration out of corners right away and the ability to power down fast let me launch obstacles that normally I would have plowed through. For the first time in ages I felt like I could feel the terrain I was riding and really work the lines I chose. I didn't think the rear end felt harsh at any time but the 2.7 tyre on the rear would have helped that. My attempts at technical jargonry aside, I love the feeling of speed from the 243 and the confidence and feel that a well made steel frame gives.
Thanks for the comments guys.

I too was a big fan of the price of the .243. For under $700 you are getting a tough, chromoly frame with a great geometry. IT is a versatile bike that is designed for all kinds of riding. I'm going to have this bike for years. DH and urban has never been so fun.

why does everyone say they are boxxer wc's? rock shox didnt release anything but one model in 02 and the ti nitrided staunchions where a thing for santa cruz i am fairly sure of as most v10s and the race team had them in 02 before anyone else. anyway the gold looks good with the black.

they were released mid 2002, known simply as a boxxer Ti or Ti-Ni, one of the two.
none of this world cup naming crap.

nice .243, I really dont mind them that much, but in my mind, they are a BIT overratted. Mainly because of nearly everyone saying OMG .243'S ARE THE SICKEST BIKES EVER OMGWTFBBQ!!1!!!1!!!

Sure, they are a good, tough, nice feeling, bike, but so are Balfa Minutemans (3 pounds lighter too), Endless lifetimes, keewee progressors, and Clifcats tankasses(new model).

I just dont see why there is so much hype surrounding a really heavy (beyond justification) frame, when there are so many other frames equally, if not more credible on the market.

oh and .243 racer, I like yours more. the older frames are that much cooler.

Yeah they're overhyped - but they are an excellent frame. The geometry is just *that* good, I've never ridden anything else that feels quite the same in terms of "just right". The weight is a downer, but as far as I'm concerned, it's the ONLY real flaw with the bike (and even then it isn't hurting anyone, it's just a minor inconvenience). You can't argue with 15.7" chainstays and a steep head angle :)

As for "credibility", wtf? What exactly are you basing that on?

Yeah and nearly twice the price in most cases.
Luke, lets hook it up mate. I think Adam and I are planning some shuttles on Sunday if your keen. Send us a PM if your on.

My appologies for the boxxer mistake, they are Ti-NI coated whether they are WC's or not. They still feel nice.

Endless Lifetimes! Have you ridden one of these? They are made in such small runs that i didn't think anyone had one in OZ. They are really expensive and they only suit 24" rear so they aren't nearly as versatile as the .243.

My advice is to get over the whole 'over hyped' thing and have a ride on one of these bikes before you continue to disrespect the .243 in the future.

much love to all of you .243 lovers

Dan
