just wondering for a dirt jump bike is it better to have a front brake more than a back brake or a back more than a front?

measure, both takes 12mm thru and i think both are 150m spacing, measure from one side of your hub to the other withouth the axel in it, is its the same then yess, will fit.

back brake, when you do a no hand when you go to put your hands on your bars you may pull the front brake by accident and go over the bars. and if you pull the back brake all that will happen is you will slide

Yeah but you can stop in ~1/4 the distance using the front brake, that you can using the back brake.
(In case you're wondering how that works, here's my reasoning [which may be flawed, where's Sparkman when ya need him]:
Front brake supposedly provides ~70% of available braking power. This is more than double what you get out of the rear brake [30%, obviously]. Since stopping distance is proportional to velocity SQUARED, if you have twice the stopping power, you should be able to stop in half the time, which means a quarter of the distance. The only possible flaw I can see here is that the amount of power the rear brake has will be affected by whether or not you're using the front brake [because obviously if you're using the front brake, you're unweighting the back wheel which means less traction on that tyre], so that 30% might jump to an equivalent 40% or something.)
In short: back brake. It looks less weird.
rear brake, a) aesthetics
b) youd be weird to run a front brake only
c) it makes u hard core
d) makes your front end lighter
e) makes your overall bike weight lighter

Go rear only for dirt and park stuff... I love a nice clean tidy cockpit, and the less shit as you can have the better I say... Yet on my downhill bike I have shit galore all over my bars.

But if you run front only you can run a hollow starnut, meaning barspins and such?
I understand from an asthetic point of view that a rear brake may look better but from a practical point of view may a front brake be better? Having said that im running a rear brake only on my mates BMX. Hmm...

although it is classified only under dirt jump, I don't know anyone who owns a bike who does not pop wheelies and manuals along the street and a rear brake can certainly come in handy sometimes.

S i know that the front brake stops you much quicker as it slows the whole bike rather than just the back for a back brake. I was just saying that when dirt jumping you dont want to be slamming on the front brake, but it wouldnt matter if you slammed on the back you would just slide rather than fly over the bars when trying to put your hands back on your bars.

you can just run an extra long rear brake cable and derailleur cable....I run extra long cables and the front brake through a hollow headlock

Rear brake if you really only want one for a DJ rig. The front brake seems to have less effect on the bike in the air, so i reckon that you may as well only have what you need. On the otherhand, because the stopping distance is increased you will have to commit to every jump, because if you do go to stop and skid, you will ruin the trails and all that shit. Just run front and rear brakes and you'll be all sweet.

thats wack.
people started only useing back break cause in BMX racing your not allowed a front break and cause of no handers and stuff like that. there is no way i would run front break only.... even in DH :?

The only good thing about front brakes for DJ is that you can do little nose manaul thing up a jump at a BMX

i would never run front only, unless it was only gunna be used on the dirt jumps, due to the fact that commutin around people cars always get in front of u quickly and you just react by applying brakes,
front brake only=back teeth only (if that made sense to anyone else but me..lol)
just run both, front through the headtube and rear with a real long cable, but make sure its mechincal cause you could be in some striffe if its hydro...
once again sory for long pointless post, its what happens when i get tired?

definately a back brake for dirt jumping. front brake is 2 risky for going over the bars etc.

when i rode bmx i used to just run back brake but on my mountain bike i found running both front and back offers so much more control.
no you never go over the bars dirt jumping with a front brake.
the only reason people just run a back brake is to be trendy.
