Others groups who have not been metioned
Terrafirma: another SA group, saw them the other week and they were playing with a back up band instead of the usual DJs.
A tribe is forming, started a punk band in 99, but over the years has slowly become hip hop. These guys will be big soon, best local group by far.
DJ delta sick MC/DJ form adeladie
A good series of albums to get are the culture kings series of aus hip hop compilations.

Butterfinger's album really impressed me; quite diverese and a big punkish sort of influence. A bit juvenille at times but hey, it's good to have a laugh too.

Butterfingers - I love work. Larfed my arse off when I heard that. I love funny songs that tell stories.
Koolism were playing at UNSW the other week.

I love it. Very unpretencious, Just a good mix of fairly original music. It isn't all that deep, but its very relevant and just plain good tunes.
edit-

Look at Yo Mamma and Everytime if you haven't already. And also the band Tripod. But that's completely OT

Snatch and Grab is another funny one, and parts of Speak Your Mind get me giggling too.
143 Clique (http://www.mp3.com.au/track.asp?id=73750). Word ;)
I went & saw Koolism, Hermitude, Ozi Battla & Urth Boy at UNSW last week. They are all sick but Ozi Battla has to be one of the best rappers around. Delivery, rhymes & word play are all excellent & he complements Urth Boy's rapid fire raps well.
Koolism were pretty sick, but by the time they came on the chronic & the beer had well and truly fucked up my ability to remember specifics. Wicked gig all round.
Naz, burn me Blyss & Esso ( or whatever they are called, they were on Fbi the other night, wicked shit)

your on! bliss&eso
I picked up the Bliss and Eso album today, it's farkin dope, lyrically miles ahead of any other Aussie hip hop I've heard. I was a bit sus the first time I listened because I thought one of them (Bliss?) was putting on the American accent, but it turns out he was born in the U.S.A. so I guess that's cool.
The CD comes with a full lyrics list and a few cool mutlimedia thingy's, a rad video of some freestyling and beat boxing in sydney and a bonus track.

its madd eh, tracks 2,3,4,8,13 OHHHH verbal orgasm
in some of ther songs e.g tunnel of love(3min:02sec) the beat changes offbeat but matches the lyrics sounds fuckin insane.
and the multimedia features a extra track, bliss&eso- Lyrical Wilderness. another awesome track
and has info on bliss eso and izm(dj) with looped instrumentals on each of them sounds sick!!!!
I like 14,
"And this is bliss n esoterikizm, suffa n pressure you put these mutherfuckers together and nothin' is fresher"
and 8,
"That's why writing time is designed for the whole calendar, cos lyrically we kill it like Kilik from Soul Calibur"
Word. 8)
Two somewhat useless and mostly rhetorical questions:
1. What is the obsession rappers/hip-hoppers have with tooting their own trumpet? IMO just makes em sound like tools (moreso than they already do ;))
2. What is the fascination with X-TREME misspellings of words in their names/track titles? Is it ghardc0re because it's so dangerous or something?

Same reason that rock musicians play solos, showing off.

Has anyone heard of a fella called Emcyte? or something like that.. I saw him at the breaker stage at Livid 03, fuckin' ripped that shit. Rappin' about real stuff, and bloody well too. It was a pisser, he goes "who out there owns a 4WD?" and a few people put their hands up, then he goes "you're all fuckin' wankers, like you need a car that big ya fuckheads". I haven't heard anything about him since then, nothin on the hip hop show and i can't find anything on the web... Anyone?
