The Watering Hole
A place to hook up rides, races, trail maintenance or drinking sessions!

The idea of drinking loads of beer with some riding crew, as put forward by our Sydney counterparts seems like a bit of a good idea. This is a call put out to Melbourne riders (or anyone who can get to Melbourne) for a pub crawl this coming Saturday (14th of August).

Itinerary:
1. Meet at 6pm at the Public Bar
http://www.melbournepubs.com/venues/589/Public-Bar-Hotel.html
2. Drink some beer at the Public Bar
3. Bugger off to somewhere else that is bike friendly

Directions can be discussed on the night, but we can either head towards Brunswick Street, and hit up the many pubs in that area, or head through the city and South Yarra towards St Kilda. Either way, we should get pissed.

The idea would be to include bikes at this stage, and if the weather looks to be really crap, then maybe discuss ditching the bikes and opting for other transport.

The aim would be to see if we can get a few more people than 7.

Cheers

Al
- and yes there will be someone there taking incriminating photos.

Seems like a bit of a competition ay. I'm sure you'll beat 7.
Have a good one fellows, but remember if you have the bikes your going to make a lasting impression.

Sounds like the good ol' Alleycat days.... and no al, we're not having a race.

I was think it was more of a challenge to see if we can get more than 7 slack arse Melbournians to come out of the warmth of their winter hidey holes to come and drink some beer.

and I haven't been in melbourne long enough to engage in the Sydney/Melbourne rivalry.

but then again...... :-)

Al
- as long as we all get pissed.

I don't know... the youth of today... no stamina..... in my day, we were swigging passion pop between classes, and drunk by lunchtime, and that was in grade 5.....

actually Mr dromana, good on you. wait until the legal age until you ruin your life with alcohol.

as we will be frequenting licensed venues, this gathering will be limited to those of legal drinking age.

Cheers

Al

So, whats the official verdict on bikes? I'd love to but some will have probs with locking etc.... and the cops might get Surly.

Shouldn't be too much hassle with Bikes. The old wednesday night rides used to turn into a bit of a crawl every now and then. There were enough pubs with the right space for bikes, and generally enough locks and enough menacing looking pissed mountain bikers about to discourage any lowlife from doing a runner with one of the bikes.

Thinking about it, I would pay money to watch a druggie trying to get away on a stolen mountain bike being chased by 20-30 pissed downhillers - a new kind of extreme sport/reality television!?!?!

Looking at the Metropolitan forecast for Melbourne.... heehhe... it indicates that it will be pissing down with rain, so bikes might not be as practical. Will make a decision on the bikes on Friday.

I have been hassling a few other riding friends who are non-farkiners. There are about 8 or so no-farkin crew coming, so it should be a bit of fun.

Nice.

Cheers

bikes would be the way to go. its about bikes...

will sort out some lockable action for you.

there is a crew starting to get together, although mostly non-farkiners. all will be on bikes so should be all good.
