"..I’d always wanted to try a set because I’m a flat pedal bandit and everyone who has ever used a set raved about them. However there was no way I could ever justify the expense of buying a set..."

Looks like they took a Panaracer Dart tyre, cut it up and stuck it on the front half of that sole. Oldschool riders, you'll know what I mean when you compare the two ;)

Can be had for $206 from Mountain Designs. It costs nothing to become a store member and you then get 10$ off so the 229 come down to 206.

I finally picked up a pair last week. Pity I'm on holidays and away from my bike...

Can't wait to give em a shot.

My mother in law thought that someone had spilt soft drink on her kitchen floor and she was going to have to mop up after she heard me walk across it. That rubber sure is sticky.

BTW, you can get them resoled in sydney too. Once they start wearing out but BEFORE you wear through the lower sole, get a new layer of the hard core sticky put onto them for way less than a new pair o shoes.

Can't recall where just now, oh hang on, yeah:

Big John's Retreads in Petersham, Sydney.

Yay!

Extra points Rik if you can name the rear tyre that complimented the Dart

Interestingly enough, there is a bit of resemblance to the Smoke tread pattern going on on the heel of that shoe.
Hrm... sounds like a conspiracy to me.

edit: I can see a Marzocchi M on that heel too... oh man I need to get out more.

Yeah, had a pair of the 5.10s for a few years now - wore them a lot initially (to work and general kicking around), but the combination of the sole wearing quickly and the inners ripping to shreds around the heels means they've been relegated to minimal duties these days.

Hell comfy shoes though - maybe I should get them resoled and see if the inners can be rebuilt ...

Ive got a pair, they are really awesome shoes but the only problem I have had is that my pedals eat huge holes in the soloes after a while (Atom labs aircorp). I usually get about 6 months from a pair and then have to throw them out because the sole is full of holes.

i think he ment 10% not 10$, which would be 229 - 22.9 = 206ish

Thanks Ty,

Yeah, what he said. 10% not 10$. Right next door to each other on the keyboard. Grrrr.

drew

Remember, if the soles get chewed by your pedals, you can always get 5.10's resoled, even mountain masters.

Cheaper than nu shuze.

Unfortunately they don't bring in the flat soled version (as far as I know), only the clipless version. They're moon shoes, pretty bulky, look weird. As for usage, I didn't get a chance to try them out, due to the above.

High Top or Low Top?
This is direct from Eric at FiveTen:

Would you want to see high top or low top Impacts?

have everyone you know email us, telling us they want to see them back.

It's working.

Eric Odenthal erico@fiveten.com

Basicly, what needs to happen is that everyone interested in getting these shoes back in production needs to e-mail him your preference....the poll is just for our own sakes. He needs you to respond directly to erico@fiveten.com .

Copy this text and post it on every conceivable forum you can think it would apply to and we'll see what kind of count he gets.

This is what the two different versions looked like before. I would also let them know style wise what you want them to look like. My first guess is that they still have these designs sitting there and might just re-introduce the same thing. Not sure yet.

Anybody tired of these threads...sorry...I wanted to post a poll as well.
