View Full Version : Why is it always my fault?

Me and my brother went out riding today near my house and we're going down a easy bit of trail but it's hard dirt/rock and I hear a skid look round to see my brother lying on his side telling me he heard something in his shoulder snap.
So I call mum+dad tell them to bring the car to the bottom of the trail and walk up to help get him, 2 bikes and all the stuff (2 backpacks etc) back home and him to hospital.
And it's all my fault! Parents take fucking ages to get to us up a piss easy trail I help my bro make him a "sling" from my riding top and I'm the one who's to blame.
So now parents want to sell his bike and he can stick to tennis!
Fuck it sux! Sorry if this seems like a rant or sumthing but I need to talk about it to someone who knows biking better than my parents.

my dad "rides". He's got a Gaint NRS1, a few years old. But he mainly rides it on the roads coz he doesn't like riding it off-road incase he riders some where ur not meant to. Which is nearly everywhere.
And they're madder coz my bro came off but they think it's a dumb sport.
Probably think that I should be playing tennis or soccer!

my dad doesn't like me riding but he doesn't try to stop me because he'd rather let me go and know where i'm going than me having to ride while he's out and not know where i went.

Thats a shame about your bro but give your parents a chance to cool off and then try and talk to them. Its always a initial shock for parents when there kids get hurt.
My parents used go mental everytime the surf got big they wouldnt let me go out, they used to hide my boards at there office.

my parents want me and my bro out the house but I think they just blamed me coz my bro sort of started after I did and he's crashes have been getting steadily worse. But last year he broke his wrist playing aussie rules and had to have surgery so I don't know why they're annoyed at me for him breaking his collar bone he didnt have to have surgery and he got morphine! ah well thats parents i guess!

ohhh...tell them that riding=life and you will never stop...My friend has a 3 strike rule. if you break a bone 3 times in your body he isnt aloud to ride anymore!!! he has already broken 2 and now he is to worried about breaking a third! :) well all little siblings always follow their older brother/sisters!!!

bummer dude!
but yeah, id say hes more likely to be injured playing aussie rules than mountain biking.
with mountain biking, hes the one in control.
if he choses to go to hard and injure himself, its his choice...
with aussie rules injuries, they're harder to avoid as alot of the time they're because of other players.
do they not watch aussie rules? it can be a lot more physical than mountain biking.
Also, point out what aussie rules will do to his knee's... everyone i know whos played a sport that required alot of running now has knee problems. a number of them have had to have knee reconstructions.
mountain biking has alot less impact on your joints (unless hes throwing himself of stupid drops of course)

he was wearing a helmet and gloves thats it. But you an't get anything to stop a collar bone breaking like he broke his. Its just that he landed on the side of his shoulder and the crushing force inwards made his bone flex to much and snap. I've got a knee/shin combo but dont always use it coz i dont have huge crashes I just get small annoying and usually embarrassing ones with little cuts and bruises.

If they're still against riding in a few days time, id point out that the injury could have just as easily occured playing any other physical sport.

I am 18 and my bro is 14.
He's out for six weeks. (Finally peacefulness free of his drumming!)
No my parents don't mind me going out, couldn't stop me anyway!
I went out on a ride the day after and rode the section where my bro came off and I think he just braked at the wrong time coz I tried it and it was slippery as oil, nearly came off my self.
I'm not really meant to ride according the docs coz I am on warfarin a blood thinnig drug coz I got an artificial heart valve but hey I couldnt stop riding for anything, so i just try to take care!

I don't think he ever wants to ride again which is pretty lame and defeatist IMO. But give it time, enough mtb videos and he'll be bk on the bike!

That might be the problem right there.
If hes only 14 he cant have had alot of experience on a mountain bike, and if hes been watching some full on mtb video's, chances are hes pushing his limits beyond his capabilities.
Yes, this is how you get better, and this is just a guess, but he may have been pushing his limits a little to far?

He's ridin the same section of trail b4 and is actually pretty good. The section of trail was easy aswell but yeah he could've been pushin it a bit I spose. But I think it was just unlucky the trail was pretty much just rock and abit slippy!

you little shiite, i wouldnt just chase you with a stick and nail, id make sure u were strewn across a trail resembling north shore just so people could laugh at you and ride over your stupid corpse. 'like naz' fku stupid little shit ima kill you
:P
the olds dont mind me riding my bike, even tho i get plenty beat up..
they think its harmless after breaking my pelvis in three places on a motorbike... plus the old man used to cain himself on motorbikes...
even if ur olds try to stop him, and he's keen, he'll prob find a way to ride...
it would be cool if you could find out something like ur riding that ur olds did, but that could be hard...
