I know there's lots of threads on these things, but this is a different question. I've been thinking about getting myself a skate style helmet, just because I kinda like the look of them and am a little sick of riding at the jumps with an alien mothership strapped to my cranium (not a good look on camera); I don't really like my nice helmet getting knocked around at the trails either.
I've hit a snag though, I can't find one that fits. 661 don't (mullet or dirt lid) or any of the other generic brands I've tried (DNA, Haro etc.) Closest so far has been a pro-tec XL, but it is still uncomfortably tight.
To all you people out there with the pro-tec lids, does the padding in them compress at all with time? ie. do they "stretch" at all?
Alternatively, does anyone know of a skate lid that comes in a bigger size?
OK, i have a Protec DJ lid, and it fits like a glove. Its a Large and i have a small head. The padding is like 1.5cm thick though and it doesnt compress as far as i know. The old protec's had different style of padding (about .5cm think) which would increase the amount of space in the helmet. Alternitively you could hit the sewing machine and make some nice padding for the helmet.
Good Luck!

Yours is the skater protec lid alex, you can get them in a bmx model with a proper styrene inner, like the 661s etc and the same sizing.

The one I tried on was the skater one. The BMX ones aren't available here as far as I'm aware. Are they any bigger?

From what ive seen on their website, the recomended head size doesn't differ between the two models. I haven't seen the bmx style here, but im pretty sure they sell for around 30 usd, shouldn't be too mcuh to land one here if you were that way inclined.

iv got a TSG one, iv had it for ages, iv repainted it manyatime, written abuse on it, played soccer with it... now the most of the lining over the foam has worn off and falls off, but it lasted ages, and has saved me head a few times... theres a review for one on www.bmx-test.com

One word Wombat:
Dremel.
The only helmet I could find that was big enough to fit me was a 888 (triple eight) brand skate-lid in whatever their biggest size is with the rear padding taken out and replaced with thinner stuff. I don't have a massive cranium though, just dreads that make my effective head size gigantic.
The 888 deforms a bit to mould to your head and comes further down around the ears and back of the head than most pisspots, it's comfy to wear and yeah, pretty much the only helmet I could find that comfortably fit my head and didn't perch on top of it.
