Chain Rings For DH

What is the best all round size chain ring for downhill at the moment i run a 46 toother but it feels to big so should i go 36, 38 or 42 and how mutch will a cheaper DH one be??

it will depend how much you pedal and how much you weigh to see what size ring

i run a 38 to a 11-22 road cassette and it works fine. i have eough range. just means i have to stand up and pedal up any sort of incline though. but its so nice and crisp on the dh track. really good to use. if its just a pure bred dh bike as its either on the back of your car, house or dh track than go with a 42. i have to pedal places so i use the 38. if its a 'freeride' bike than a 36 is usually pretty good.
