well... after eating half a 2 day old donut the other night that i later discovered had cream in it i dont think im healthy enough to stomach that lil piece of trivia :?.
Where are all these facts from and are they backed by reputable sources?
Really, this stuff doesn't make us ill. We are biologically tuned to put up with alot more than single fragments of rodent filth in our food. I know it's not nice to think about but these things in such small quantities will not usually cause health issues.

establish maximum levels of natural or unavoidable defects in foods for human use that present no health hazard
So i guess it doesnt really matter then. And aren't these just maximum allowable levels anyways? Doesn't mean all food has the above in it...

Rodent hair, not surprised.
Mmm yum, rodent hair.
Whats more worrying to me, is the carcenogenic additives and preservitives in processed food, although just a breath of air in the city is carcenogenic  .

hah yeah, i love when i get people at work who have obviously ridden to southbank on their horse... their HIGH horse... and lecture you about hygene. where i work its not policy to wear gloves unless u are doing fruit salads up or if u have nail polish on, other then that we never directly handle the food its always via tongs etc. never the less u still get people lecturing you how you should be wearing gloves... now obviously it doesnt occur to them that there is very little difference between
a) a clean glove and a clean hand
or in the other case,
b) a glove that has scratched your arse and a hand that has scratched your arse (not that i scratch my arse, purely an example)
gloves pretty much only serve a mental.
Hah... when I was working at a big burger chain, we had to check the base of the buns to make sure there weren't any insects baked in to them.
Lots of small winged insects were found, we had a cockroach or two appear as well :x
It'd be a real eye opener to take a tour of a food processing plant, just to see what actually happens to the stuff that we eat.

Well if the FDA isn't a reputable source i don't know what is.
Like it says, this has no adverse health impacts on humans but i thought it would be interesting to some people to know what they are eating.

That doesn't comply with the FDA maximum rodent hair content now does it

actually u may have just come up with something there... i imagine a rat would have a couple of million hairs all over its body. if they take the hairs on that rat (which were found in a burger) and divide it by the number of burgers sold you may have something like the above figures :P
ohhh my, on the topic of nasty nasty food, i have no more to say than this:

I used to be a chef. After that I don't trust much food...but I eat it anyway. Aslong as tastes good; I don't give a rats ass.

This and the Howard thread need bringing together. My mate has to cook for Howard at a function in a couple of weeks. I've been begging him to drop one big goober in his meal for me...and that got us thinking.
Of all the functions Howard has attended in the last eight years, how many chefs, waiters etc have taken the opportunity to spit in his meal... how much phlegm has he eaten in this time

Speaking of rather... stopandmakeyouthink stories.
I heard that at a local burger chain, staff kept complaining about the smell for the cooking fat in the friers, this went on for weeks- changing the fat daily to try and get rid of the odour. They didnt find out what the smell was until they caught an asian member of staff urinating in the deep frier    This memeber of staff was fired later that afternoon.
His reason for Urinating in the frier:"I couldn't be bothered walking to the toilet", which happened to be less than 10 meters away
