depends who you ask. Monkey bars are XC bars, Azonic's "Doublewalls" are nice but they have a weird bend (you either love them or hate them), Protapers are great, Titec 7075's are nice, easton Scandium DH's aren't bad... OH, and the old RF's are crap...

ProTapers rock!
What makes "FR" bars any different to "DH" bars?
Find something strong, and then make sure it's comfortable for yourself.

Again a freeride bar is a DH bar can be a street bar.............
The 2 most important things to consider when buying bars
1. quality/strength of the bars
2. personal fit (back sweep, uprise, etc.)
My personal preference is a Truvativ Holfelzzer/Hussafelt 50mm riser (DH) bar.
I like the sweep and uprise...........

I use 'em on my trials bike and find them pretty good apart from the stupid shim required to fit them in a stem. The bars can spin in the shim which really is not cool when you're on something high and skinny.
I'd reccomend some Easton bars, since they are strong as you'll need and lots of people, me included, love the shape. The monkey bar would be damn fine.

ain't pro taper motox bars???
pro taper MX bars were loosly based on the alulite serise (one of the first gen mtb rises) released by answer way back in like 95-96, this was one of the first examples of MX borrowing technology from mountain bikes.
the alulite then became the alulite 2 then evolved into the pro taper that we know today.
