I have a DMR Trailstar with Z3s and various bits n pieces. I paid for everything cept the back tyre + tube, which I got from andrew (thanks!) for free.

I also have a Norco VPS Team DH with Super T's, Hayes, 321s, etc. I paid for everything except the grips and the stem, which I got as Xmas presents.

As far as protective stuff, I have a 661 Dirt Lid which my parents paid for, a Mad Max 2 that I paid for, 2 sets of shinnies, both of which I paid for, and gloves, which I also paid for. I also have a shitload of tools which I've scrounged from here and there, but mostly paid for myself (including my workstand).

In total, my parents have contributed about $300 to my bikes over the past 3-4 years.

BTW, I'm 17, if that makes any difference.

Ok here goes:
Gitane roady: 600 ultegra. bought myself in Grade 10 after delivering shit loads of junk mail.
GT Talera: My first mountain bike which I paid for in Gr 11 after working my arse of chipping cotton.
Bauer: Same payment, working arse off!
GT LTS 2: Spent up big, back in the anodised days Purple anodised everthing, from ringle' water bottle cages to jockey wheels. Paid for by Chipping bloody cotton again!!
Had a few years break, got married, blew shitloads on cars
Avanti Hammer: Paid for as a draftsman, (not really working arse of  )
Raceline ext sport: Paid for with own business.
Mongoose VRS 3.0 (frame for free from excellent mate, kept snapping it  Shit hard rider though!)
Cannondale roadie: Same. (couldn't help myself  )
And now just bought new DH rig 2nd hand from someone on farkin  , but thats a secret until I get it home next wednesday (mainly from my wife).
I don't like stuff from parents (or anybody) because then I feel as though I owe them... They put me through education, and I feel as though I have achieved something by working hard for my toys.
But hey if you can get it for (guilt) free. Go ahead

My parents don't pay for anything apart from my mobile bill and anything school related.

Dirt bikes, mountain bikes, BMX's, all the related gear, computers, reptiles, clothes, shoes, etc etc...is all paid for by me.

God damn it, Cindie better read this thread.

I have to pay for everything (heavily modified Giant Warp for DH, a Free Agent Air Raid park bike **for sale btw**, and soon to be KHS Bitch for 4X/jumps/park and possibly a Norco XC bike, perhaps, one day.....)

Then again, she did spend 9 months carrying my child around, and she looks after her occasionally.

Yo, 125PONY, bring the XR250 or the XR80 (although I'll probably break the 80) to a race so I can have something to ride.

00 Giant DHTeam frameset (bought brand new in 02...yes i know...very rare :))
03 Manitou Dorado DH
XT/XTR drivetrain (cranks/bb/r.mech)
XT DH 8" disc brakes
Aireal DH hubs (orange anodized)
D321's
Minion 2.5 tyres
Azonic bars
ODI ruffians
DMR V8/Shimano 646 pedals
DMR dirtjump seat (soon to get a more dh suitable one)

(pics coming sooooon)

Getting my ride to what it is now is a long and complicated story. Basically: Parents gifted few head of cattle to me (I live on a 'hobby farm')
Used profits to buy second hardtail, sold that after 4 months, used the money from its sale towards a Mongoose NX8.0, sold it after 6months or so, put the money from that sale towards an 01 Mongoose Grand Marquis also using almost 100% of my livestock profits from that year.
12months later, went to Mansfield, VIC for some reason - and saw a brand spankin new Giant DHTeam frameset in the window of the small LBS for $1500. Taking advantage of the opportunity, brought dad's bankcard into the equation and built all the parts from my mongoose onto the Team frame that day, in Mansfield.
Found a buyer for the Grand Marquis, who was to take the Hayes brakes and dice wheels and Psylo onto the goose frame.
The sale left me with money - and a Team level bike with no brakes, fork, or wheels.
Paid parents back for the Team frame with more livestock profits, and bought a Aireal DH wheelset, and following later, XT DH brake kit and Dorado fork.

Damn that was a shitty long story, even being cut down :? , but basically, ive paid for the majority of bikes/components myself, and my parents have lent me money in situations where i didnt have the cash at the time to pay for things myself. But ultimately, it was my parents giving me the livestock that let me do all that i have concerning bikes.

those are some pretty good bikes/stories, hopefully soon i will have some pics of my old bike and my new one.

by the way doz any one know whats wrong with my rea 8"hayes mech.? i think that its a bit warped, and when i peddle on an angle (i.e lean to one side) it makes a load rubbing sound is the disc farked or doz it just need tuning, oh and by the way the qr is done up properly and im pretty sure that the disc is done up properly

S.
07-07-2003, 11:13 PM
If your hub is loose at all (cones) when you lean, it's putting a tiiiiny bit of movement into the rotor, making it rub. Nothing to worry about, the cones just need tightening.

ok then it doznt sound as bad as what i thought it might be even still i think i should get it checked

ok then it doznt sound as bad as what i thought it might be even still i think i should get it checked, would the disc being warped have anything to do with it?

Well, I' ride a Haro Escape 8.3 ('02) THE bike AMB did the test on: Psylo's, Hayes hydros, rhyno lites but I've changed a fair few parts:
40mm shorty stem, oury's (the ONLY grip) those plugs adam gave me, 2.65 Kujo on the front, LX 8 speed (woohoo, Shimano can stick 9 speed!), oddy twisted pedals, adams bashring with shimano rings, lx cassette, haro dj seat, and a full length rear cable (I hate grime).
