hey guys and girls,

i rode the kinglake track (victoria) just before christmas last year (in 30° heat- pushing back up the track) and wondered whats the condition of it at the moment and whether it's worth the drive up there this weekend.

anybody a local up there and riden it recently? it was fair hairy and eroded last time and i can only suspect it getting worse.

i was hoping to show 'Ajay' the track.

cheers all,
Oram

we ride up there fairly regurlarly, and yeah, it's getting a bit erroded in places, but that just makes it all the more fun, just sus out a line or two in a few places and you'll be right ! just don't go flat out expecting it to be the same as the last time you were there. Though we've been skipping the final bit after the gate lately, so i have no idea what sorta state the fire track at the end is in. the track in general is still good for sure though.

Exactly what Stormfire said. It's a great track to practice your lines and avoid the ruts.
I might head up there with Michael next Sunday.

I was up there a few weeks back and it was a little rutted but still plenty of fun. I'm always keen for a ride up there if you want someone to ride with.

Yeah, farkin eroded, last few times i've been up it's been raining, the tracks turned into a river with little warning. They've been pretty persistent at locking the gate to the bottom bit so we haven't been doing it, but you get more runs in if you don't have to drive down there.
As for this maps or it doesn't exist thing (bowden spur rd)
Great track though.

Here a post i put up a while ago relating to this topic.

[scott edit: It has been brought to me attention that this trail currently has land access issues that need to be resolved. Posting it on the internet at this time perhaps isn't the best idea.]

Try riding the new track for the top section. It's awesome, lots of bermed corners and jumps. It's in the trees to your right if you're looking up the hill from the old start.

sorry for digging this up again...but...

who has issues with people riding underneath transmission lines ? besides the people that own those powerlines. I mean, theres a gate there, but as long as we don't cut the lock and stay out of the bit with the 'road closed' sign , why is there even an issue with the trail being used ???

Id say that the people that own the power lines not wanting you to ride there was reason enough. Locked gate, road closed signs...i dont think you could really get any more blunt than that.

i realise that, and it's fair enough ... but what i'm asking is whether there are access issues for the part of the track that exists before the gate ? as only the very last part of the track is affected by the closure of the access road.

i mean, it's fair enough that the power companies don't want us driving up and down their access roads, so they're well within their rights to put a gate there...but is there something saying that we can't have a track that runs along the side of a public road ??? otherwise i don't see why the location of the track should be censored

Well depending on the zoning of the road will dictate who says what about the land next to the road. Someone has obviously told scott that there are access issues with some/all of the land that the track is built on, if there isn't, thats fine, but if there is, id be wanting to keep it a bit low key at the moment.
