Arse clown...
i? How about I? Oh, and at the start, perhaps it should be "Could we please, possibly, offer..."
You also spelt arseclowns as one word, at the start, then as 2 at the end. Which is it?
Also shouldn't it be:
You my friend; cannot spell? I could be wrong on that one though.

Arseclown is not a definative phrase and doesn't necessarily have a fixed spelling.
You my friend, cannot spell could be expressed both ways. You're right on the I thing though, that was entirely my fault.

I was also going to mention that you failed to point out his use of 'your' instead of 'you're', but in the end I really don't care.

seriously man, im? who gives a shit.
if u dont (sorry: don't) like the dude fair enough, but get over stupid little things like spelling. Sure gramatical (sp?) errors are annoying, but sometimes u just gotta (sorry, got to) build a bridge.
get over it.
Here we go again...
Considering the only way of communication on the internet is via text, using that text the best it can be used is crucial, IMO at least.
There's no body language, no tone, nothing other than text. If someone can't spell, it makes life difficult for those reading it. Yes, we can decipher it, but why should extra effort be put in to understanding what they're trying to say.
The way I see it, if people can't put effort in to conveying their views through the most legible means possible, how much do those views mean to them? And do they expect people to give a damn about reading if they don't give a damn about how it's typed?
Typos and honest grammatical errors here and there can be ignored, everyone makes mistakes, but 2 perpisley tipe lik dis n tink ppl shud care bout wat im tryin 2 say iz a bit stopyd!1 There's a line between honest mistakes, and purposely butchering the language that you rely on to communicate your views.
Would you take your car, and hack in to it with an axe, ruining its functionality? So why hack the language that you rely on to communicate with?
most of the time i try to spell as best as i can, i cant help it if a hit the wrong key or something, i try my best, caz daver directed this at me, and hes just being a girl

It's actually not against you, but go into 90% of the threads on the site and you will struggle to understand half of the posts because they are filled with crap. Anything with 13 year-olds jumping or "hucking" is an easy place to start.
Seriously though, it was your thread that sent me over, but it was still the culmination of all the other crap.

i agree with you on 13 year old huckers, im sort a 13year old hucker myself, but im not as bad as all my friends, all they do is jumps and drops, im the only one really intersted in downhill (also theres riley) and i admit i do suck shit at typing, and muck up quite a bit, but i try my best

Well I will happily say that an ignorant attitude towards how a person talks/spells makes me careless about their opinion. Typos and honest mistakes are completely understandable and acceptable but this caz, wot, dubl, or posts like Bobo used to make are the quickest way for me to ignore a thread. I could quite happily PROVE to you that reading writing like this actually MAKES IT HARDER TO READ. People seem to think that it's a simplification of English, a heuristic device if you will. But it is not, it actually slows down the reading process, this is a definate FACT!!!
People can call me a spelling Nazi or tell me to take up bridge building all they want, but the fact is that it shits me and I find that when people speak like that, they usually have nothing to say anyway!
Proof read for God's sake, it only takes a second and gives you more credence on a textually based medium such as a forum.
That's what I think!
PS Please oh please some one tell me that it's bullshit so I can own your arse!

this sort of attitude is the reason i'm never on farkin.net anymore. everyone is either hating someone or complaining about insignificant things. a forum can never be perfect, whineing just makes it worse. get over it please
And interestingly enough, all the gripes about spelling are actually with the goal of improving forum content. If there were no "spelling police" and "grammar nazi's" lurking, and people posted utter crap with no care for the content, would the forums be a better place?
mayb if u dun care who sayz wat abot ne ting
spelling should at least be readable, so you can make something out of it, a good example of making something completely unreadable is here:

I think you misundernderstand what's being said. No one is asking for perfection, just a little more care.
Incorrect spelling and grammar only slows your reading down if you haven't become accustomed to reading writing like this before. If it is used more often then you will also be able to understand. Do you think that you could read correct english the first time you saw it?
Johnny, I dont think that your attitude is reflected in all people and I also doubt that most people care if you dont care about their opinion because they write differently.
Don't be afraid of change Johnny, sometimes it is good. As is an open mind.

Interesting opinion.
First off, I was only speaking for myself, not everyone else on this forum, but it has been an issue that people discuss for as long as I've been on here. You are right that once you become accustom to it, it will be easier to read. The problem is plural, there is no set format, standard for the new cyber spelling so any new word can be made up forcing the average reader to constantly interpret what they are reading into already known vocabulary schema. Also, this new form has to be learnt afresh. Humans along with many other mamals have critical periods, one of these for humans is linguistics. The critical period ends from between 6-8, but to call it critical may be misleading for the term critical infers that if it is not met, the period for action has passed. Humans can always learn new languages, it's just much harder, as in MUCH harder than when a young child.
I say that the English language is constantly in a state of change and re-interpretation. But this process is quite slow, therebye easier for the majority of the population to keep up with change. To turn a full sentence into a phonetic sense with an added twist of net-creativity is a change that only the core of the net generation or the creators can keep up with. Therefore I would think it smarter to stick to the form in majority use as to aid efficient communication.
Little bits here and there, especially when text messaging, is fine. I would argue that the vast majority of members on this forum write in the accepted English. This is why I find it hard to accept when some one joins a thread speaking in what at first glance might as well be a foreign or pigeon (sp?) version of English compared to the way everyone else has been speaking/writing.
PS, Find me a Swedish woman aged between 25-35, blonde/brunette/red head, full figured, with good stamina, and I'll be more than happy to prove how open my mind is

solution: delete without warning posts which cross the line of "poor spelling", the poor spellers will get the point quickly and the anti poor spellers will stop complaining, safe in the knowlege it's being taken care of.

You're not owning my arse, johnny... I agree wholeheartedly.

And your point is what exactly? I know it may be hard to understand, SOB, but this site is NOT the exclusive domain of the barely-pubescent-and-couldn't-give-a-fark-about-anything type of user. In fact it's time for THEM to build the bridge, get over their BS and egocentric attitudes and join the REAL world.

I'll back this idea too. Now if the admins will just give us the OK then it's all GO.
OK Johnny, for a change i will agree with your last comments. At least you gave a good and fair explanation.
with the delete of bad spelling posts i think it is a bit oveboard, you wouldnt like it if you spent ages doing one post, and its a big post, and it gets deleted, maybe because of one tiny little mistake, i suggest one of the admins/mods should send a template to the authour of the post asking them to edit out the mistakes, and if they dont change it with-in 10 minutes or so you either edit it yourself or deltete it depending on how many mistakes are in it

You mean like your post?
What about those of us who actually take that little bit extra time to spell check and re-read our posts to make sure they actually make sense?
If it takes you a long time to write a rambling incoherrent post then why bother at all? No one gives a shit about you unless you can communicate CLEARLY.
I wonder if there's anyway of getting a spell check built into the board?
Oh, Scott..... I say, Scott?
If any of you have been on the whirlpool australia forum, they have an inbuilt spell checker and before a post is submitted all errors are fixed. I think they use vBulletin, but I am positive you can find a phpBB spell check mod as well.
***EDIT***
This may be helpful (http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=214939) - it prevents double posts which seem to happen quite often on here.
Here is also a spell checker http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=208855

Doesn't that then defeat the purpose?
Not really, no...
It gives noone an excuse to making speiling misteaks.
But at the same time, the checker is going to be hell with brand names, until they get added to the list. Plus any money it's Americanized (bastardised) English, which will make life harder for those of us that prefer the language of our nation.

If you're still asking that question, then try reading through the numerous threads posted about it, obviously people DO care.
Get a life? I guess that because people like to be able to read clear, legible sentences it means that they don't have friends or other interests? Here's another suggestion: how about you pull your head out of your ass and have a look at the world around you; it's pretty.
