hey ppls,
there is a place where i can develop legal DH, XC and 4X courses. these will be based in a state park, and some of them can be located in areas where general public don't have access to without permission and key.

problem: state parks' insurance does not cover mountain biking, or specific trail types for cycling!
i understand that for racing (perfect venue for racing) that MTBA/CA race and day licenses cover race insurance for venue, but how would one go about insuring the venue for day riding/practice/social rides? would we have to sell day licenses from the office like at the brissy bike park? how would u police it? does anyone know how else to deal with this without having to purchase insurance (this may work if riding turnout pays off)?
any ideas
thanks
nich

You need to speak to an expert. I'd suggest you give Steve Gilbert a call on (03) 98899455 or email him steve@cib.biz He is an insurance expert, a mad bloody cyclist himself and the originator of the very specialised "Bicycle Shopsurance" scheme that many, MANY shops and bike industry companies (including us) now use.

You need to form a club (contact MTBA) or contact a local club (contact MTBA web site) and issue day licenses on race days. Get a disclaimer signed by the riders and tell them it is dangerous. The site is either closed when not used for club races (like Dargle), or the land owner is willing to accept responsibility when riders use the site at other times (like state forests and state recreation areas and some councils) or you try to get insurance when the site is used out of club days. The insurance out of club days will cost about $6,000 Hunter MTB Club have been trying to insure Sugar loaf for years and cannot get cheaper yet.

Instead of "club days" you could have say monthly "club races" and therefore be covered by mtba insurance.
