i am hardcore...I HAVE A GLOVE TAN!

hey all,
i just got back from a 6 day mountain bike ride in WA's south west and it was bloody awsome. 350km off road in some fairly challenging terrain at times and some descents decents for the gravity freaks, but as the age old saying goes, what goes up must come down also works in reverse when your bike touring off road, what goes down, must go back up the biggest gnarliest steepest hill with the most pea gravel you've ever seen!
The days were long with up to 9 hours riding (including breaks), the killer part was my our bikes do not have ports for any racks or panniers, therefore we were carrying 13kg packs on our backs for these long days and going through up to 7 litres of water a day easily, thats whilst trying to ration it out for two days between water stops. and on top of that, we were too cheap to buy riding shorts/nix, so my ass is quite sore right now (for all the right reasons)
if youv'e never done it, or want to try it a multi day/night off road MTB adventure is well worth the effort and the memories are great...like the time i came off trying to break my speed record of 66kmh, i came off at about 45 and slid for about 20meters, that gave me some serious gravel rash. drinking at a local country pub in dwellingup sharing stories with the locals and other riders...good stuff fellas. sleeping under the stars or in purpose built huts, cold at night so rug up, to bed with the sun and up at the crack of dawn. so many stories i want to tell the world, i bet no-one cares. i'll put some photos up later if enough people are interested.

ASH - Munda Biddi End to Ender...

ps- look forward to riding the completed track to albany in late 2005 ~1100kms

Ahh, that's great Ash, I'd definately like to see some pictures!

I don't know how you do it, 350km and now you are planning to do the whole track! You're crazy!

By the way, how many tubes did you manage to go through, ;)!

Im gonna get a shirt made up..."IM A FUCKING IDIOT, ask me why", so yes i am a little crazy, and as for the tubes, i surprised myself too, didnt get a single flat/puncture at all. and was running some pretty low PSI for some of the longer downhill bits. Only mechanical problem was a snapped chain, easily fixed in 5 mins by my trusty chain tool.

legs are a little sore, i might ring my masseuse friend later:wink:

Man thats awesome. There is no way I'd make that distance in so few days or if at all.

Maybe you can tackle the Bibbulmun track next

I didnt think bikes could do bibbulmum? Isn't that why they built munda biddi?

ive done a few stints on the munda biddi, planning to do the lot fairly soon i recognise a few of those bits as well!.......
so you went all the way to collie? (i think i recognise the park in the picture), good job! nasty bit of crashing there, but no flats very nice going some of those rocks are pretty sharp (just wondering what you thought of the snotty hill just south of Jarrahdale!)
any tips on how far to go per day (keep in consideration im on a xlr8 that weighs 18kg and im slow :P )

looks like it was an awesome ride!

Sounds like a sweet ride, good to see a post that's actually about mountain bike riding and not falling off a hill.

Sounds like you'll have some long lasting memories from this ride...

Go for it pal, it would be hard going on an XLR8 but you can do it...distance wise, you have to plan that for yourself, i did just under 80k's in the first day and that was very fucking hard with lots of "challenging" rated sections. if you stick to the planned/proposed distances you'll make it easy. as for that hill before jarradale, its pretty gnarly, too bad i had to go up it. the other killer hill was a 9km uphill with no breaks at all on the 5th day. my legs were kapoot!

That looks fantastic. Well done mate. Is there water stops and such along the way? Is there are site I can look at to check out the logistics of the trip? Any help would be much appreciated.
Cheers

there are water stops along the way, i was carrying 5 liters of water per day and could have easily finished it all. some of the water tanks at some huts are empty so there's not much water there, otherwise i just talked nicely to any farmers i saw and they were happy to let me fill up my bottles and camel back.

heres a website for ya - http://www.mundabiddi.org.au/
to be honest i didn't use it that much, i just went off the info and terrain profiles on the maps i bought.
