If you don't mind the warranty issue of buying from the states, then go the IH SGS DH pro. Otherwise buy 2nd hand if you want a DH bike for 2500. You should be looking at a 2nd hand Giant DH comp for around that price. For lighter weight, look for 2nd hand Geminii or Bullit frames.

Let me be the first to say: The Stinky is not a DH bike and the IH SGS DH Pro will shit all over it. That said, I'd consider the new IH Yakuza Ojiki for 2500 for a DH capable bike that is lighter than a full-on DH sled. Otherwise save a bit more and get an IH Yakuza Kumichi for 3.5k, that's a full blooded DH bike that looks like the best value for money for a DH bike next year.

hmm i wouldn't get the stinky for DH....it's more of a freeride bike.
Anyhow have u looked at the norco's? plenty of nice bikes, u'd be able to get a 2nd hand for $2500.

You won't get a warranty with a bike from the US

BUT

Neither will you get one on a second hand bike.

If it were up to me, I'd probably go for the second hand bike from the forums. You'll get great value if you look carefully and you won't have to deal with customs.

Or you may be better served by waiting a bit and seeing what you can get value wise in at the 05 models. I like the Iron Horse Yakuza Kumicho, it should be the Gee Oh for entry level DH.

it has been discussed alot about stinkys being a 'freeride' bike....
any way, not that it cant be riden downhill but you can get alot for your money if you are willing to wait for the right bike to come up.
the IH from U.S would be cool, but its a bit of a hassel, if you spent about 3k then you vould find an absolute pearler of a dh bike - think boxers, hopes, race face etc... they are around, just look hard - its alot of cash that you worked hard (i presume) for...

and remember, if you buy stuff from the states, you have to pay GST ontop of what the US retailer charges you, plus customs duty and shipping/insurance, plus customs can screw you around like they did with my forks and hold them in customs for a week before they decide to look at it.

You forgot to say that Geminis and Bullits aren't DH frames, in fact, they're only marginally better than Stinkys at DH.

I'd grap that iron horse from the States. Definately the best value DH bike going when they were $4k here, so $2500 from the states is a steal.

i would go the ironhorse for that price, but if you want a bike that you would be able to hit up the streets on etc, just remeber it would be a tank to push around...

Yeh There is a brand spanker, IH Yakuza Ojiki in Spoke(N) in Melbourne, Victoria for $1,700. I would get it but i only need a frame.

Check It out on the Spoken website www.spoken.com.au.

check the forums, you can pick up some really good stuff for bargain prices there. Otherwise I'd go with the IH, has quite good specs for the price

Have you considered the 2005 IronHorse Yakuza Kumicho, I've seen it on sale for $2500 buckaroo's brand new which is a bargain with the 5th element shock! It's also had great reviews and would be a good all round machine
