hi, my names Matt, and i have a downhill addiction...
this morning, i stuck my foot out to take on off camber turn (as you do), the only problem being...
i was on a bus.
the bus took a sharp right turn, so naturally i stuck my foot out. i felt like a knob at the time.
and this morning, on the way to the bus, i railed this turn at the top of my street. one problem, i was running....
who else here has applied mountain biking techniques (any kind) to everyday life? is it because of obsession? or just too much time on a bike?

I was injured for about two months. Whilst out of action, I may have been driving my car, but I was riding with my eyes............

i do the same thing with the shopping trolleys.
and when im running i pretend to change gears
i walk and then "wallride" stuff on my feet
and pull flattys and whips when theres an obstacle.
haha the other week i was on a bus and going over tiny undulations, and my legs were soakin it up like pumping and absorbing on a bike.

I stand up and don't hold on to any rails. Have a good stance and practice my balance. I wear full downhill helmet, goggles, and armor.
hahaha just joking about the armor and helmet bit
I used to drive my '77 VW Golf with my fullface, goggles & gloves on & cruise through Bondi, Paddington, Bronte etc on hot sunny days pretending to be a rally driver!!!
Does this count.
It was hella funny, especially since my car was a dog :D

i always drift the big flat top trolleys at work, and scoot around on the pallet jack.... i always end up braking things tho.
When i drive over speed bumps i try and balance my car with my weight to make it smooth  force of habit

I know it was mentioned before, but whenever i go over this (very) rough bump in the road near my place, I find myself pulling the steering wheel towards myself.
My girlfriend doesn't notice, but she will, and i can see already that I won't soon live it down.

-Shopping trolly drifting
-Madcore styling of jumps over random objects
etc, etc.
Guilty as charged.
I was in France for 6 weeks without my bike and gradually, as the withdrawl grew stronger the whole terrain around me turned into an insane maze of drops, lines and jumps...
"...who cares if that church was built by the Romans? I wonder whether i could wallride it..."

after living in melbourne and catching pulic transport, i can atest to this one. i call it bus surfing, but yey, balance is cool.
i learnt this trick, cos in melbourne catching the bus or train duing peak time guarantees that you will only be able to stand...

you are right, we have all done it at least once.
i "wall ride" this wall at my house all the time, along with flattying it over the washing basket, or wheel tapping the tree outside.
its a good way to keep the skills up i think...

When I was injured, I day dreamt about riding constantly. Now that I'm back on me' bike, I feel like my riding has actually improved. I put this down to the CONSTANT visualising of myself hitting everything posible in my field of vision!
Visualise it, and it will happen

This is all very funny and truly entertaining, but those of you doing wall rides, jumping over things and kicking your feet out like a x up etc beware!
Do this in private, it may be fun but others watching may confuse you with a rollerblader! Or even worse a kid on Heeleys!!
seems your certainly not the only one.......
when in a car and we go anround a sharp corner i lean trying to use bodyweight....just habit.
i also grab the clutch thinking its the rear brake when going down steep descents on my motorbike....
i put my feet down round corners when on the lawnmower...
its all just habit, if you do it lots it gets drilled into your mind
i was trying to pick the fastes line down a set of stairs at work...
Then i thought - 'fuck it, its heaps faster just launch from top stair, land on an angle to rail the corner in to the office, then take the high line around the desk and huck into the chair....

bahahahahaha
I find myself taking the racing line no matter where i am or what I'm doing--> walking, running, lawn mowing, pushing the trolley, driving, etc... oh, and of course, i also have the tendency to do a bit of invisible bike riding too.

ha! i ran a cross country race a few months back and was pullin tailwhips off the tiny little 2ft jumps along the trail, that was prolly why i didnt do so well
i have a staircase made out of two sets in my house! i jump the first which is only 4 stairs and pretend to do some trick e.g. xup or whip....
near the refrigerated section in franklins there are rubber bumpers so that when you hit them you do not damage the fridge, i ran with the trolley and hit it around a corner and almost fell over sideways! (with people watching).

i hurt myself a little while ago and spent 6 months on crutches. by the end of that time i could do heel-clickers, Indian airs and super-mans on them.
Um, me was bored at work the other day so I worked a PC - running without a cover, took out the CD ROM and floppy(not needed),removed a couple of other useless bits and slapped a couple of stickers on it, all in the hopes it would run FASTER!! :P :P :P
Heh, I've tried to manual a car through a pothole and over speedhumps. Doesn't do a lot :D

go to your local airport and manual the baggage trolleys. on my way back from NZ i musta cranked one at least 20-30m long which is embarresing, cos it is longer than i can on a bike
shopping trolley rallys are fun, through the malls. go to the start, set a finish and go hell for leather. set challenges like you MUST ride in a lift, or go on an escalator or down some steps (this one is fun), through the carparks etc etc... then team up and have one person IN the trolley and one pushing.

The other night at work i had the trolley with 120 bottles of pepsi on it, as i was coming past one of the friers there was all this wet fatty shit on the floor so i tried to drift it round the corner, i got it sliding really well, ,made the corner and ran over my managers foot  he was not a happy chappy.
one day i was at school explaining to a friend how to pedal kick but i didn't have a bike, so i was in the middle of a crowd of people trying to pedal kick minus a bike. just imagine someone riding one of those sticks with a horse head on the top holding his arms out in front of him.
last night at about 2am i woke up with my doona on the floor, lying on my back pedalling in the air
oh and i tried to manual the front countyer at work last night. i had a heap of fat still on my shoes, i sprayed some detergent on the counter, got a big run up, jumped on to the counter, slid across, lost my balance and face planted into the wall behind the counter, looked up and realised there was a security camera right above me D'oh

Yea just make sure you don't do what i did though, driving along in a car and daze off sorta and think about doing a flattie, whoops car make violent turn in straight road. I also though about trying to launch off train tracks and do and "X" up but i think you would crash for sure

ok new idea:
set up a course in a shopping mall/public place. don FULL Dh race gear (full face, shinnies, jersey etc... (body armour is optional though cos not everyone has it)) race it out dual style and if there are more than two of you then have heats. the winner get some free shit to the value of 99c from coles.
repeat each week and then for the season final racers must wear the stupidest outfit they can find PLUS all the race gear.
winner of the final gets a $5 gift voucher for coles/wooleys/bras n stuff.
enjoy... and remember, stair gaps on foot are cool (especially ones that have no run up so you can't do em on a bike) :D

i find myself building mini 4 cross tracks out of dirt staionary items, depends where i am wat the track is made of
yea, wherever i'm going whether in a car, bus, or on foot, i'll always be looking for lines along the footpath... i'm always jumping off walls and foot tapping trees and stuff... me and my mates always do this thing we saw in the movie "double down" foot trials... run and jump off a ledge or something... land on one foot... foot kick across a table and foot kick off... and i always lean towards corners and stuff in the car...
i have a funny addiction with riding, i do the same normal things when riding, like turning like i have handlebars infront of me, i normally practise my x-ups while walking down the strret and thinking im jumping, but the other day was just stupid, i went to my mates place and i found my scooter in his garage, and i thought heres something to ride home on, anyway im riding home i come up to a gutter and do a x-up off the kurb, i did fantastic, but the next trick was crazy, i go up to a kerb and whip off it!!! only to find my self lying on the street saying "fuck i whipped to far that time!!" then i realised i was on a scooter, and that whipping is not easy :?
it was funny and the old lady across the street kept staring me down.........
