starting downhilling

i would say start out with a freeride bike like the giant ac

Yea, the 2005 ac looks good, I think its only $1700? Looks very nice, it is more freeride orientatied but you could do downhill on it. My friends got an 02 ac3 and its sweet ;)

I'd look at the Kona Stinky. Solid bike and well proven around the globe.

Norco Torrent. Awesome spec and easily upgradable to a DH frame.

i recon get a good 2nd hand DH bike. there are afew good DH bikes going around for that much

For $3000 I'm sure u can get an 03, 04 giant DH comp. If i were still selling mine whole i could have given it away for $3000.
