View Full Version : 'King of Ballarat' Summer series race #1

Round #1 of 5 of the "King" SUMMER series will be held on 24th October at Nerina (Ballarat). Check
www.clubmud.com.au
for exact details for race day. Most likely running 3 tracks per race, depending on heat and numbers, tracks will change through the series to keep it interesting. There is one brand new track that I personally spent around 80 hrs on...think single track, jump, berm, berm, berm, berm, road jump, hip/wall ride, double, single track, triple, single track, berm, step up, berm, step down, rocks and finish.....
Clubmud site will have directions and contacts, or email/call me on 0408820237.
Track will be open on Saturday after lunch for unofficial practice/social riding. THIS IS UNOFFICIAL, WILL NOT BE CATERED AND WILL NOT HAVE FIRST AID. IT WILL BE BUNTED IN THE MORNING, SO NO RIDING UNTIL AFTER LUNCH. After that, knock yourself out...LITERALLY. Tracks are also open 24/7 other times. There are rides every weekend, so turn up any time to practice or check out the tracks...EXCEPT SATURDAY 23RD IN THE MORNING.
Sunday morning if official practice until around 11am, then racing. It is a 5 race series, so the more you enter, the better your final result.
For first timers, it is a multi race track format with combined track times. There will be race classes for all levels, but not the 17 classes used at state and national... Most likely womens, novice, sport and expert (subject to confirmation)
FULL FACE AND ARMOUR RECOMMENDED, there are some gnarly lines, but options around each.
See you out there before and on race day, I am definitely out there this weekend tweaking tracks and riding if you want to join in.
Ride on,
Moorey
Poll now up in new post to guage numbers. Please vote if coming.

I was out there Saturday and that "jump, berm, berm, berm, berm, road jump, hip/wall ride" is one of the best, no the best section of track i have ever ridden. Top work. I'll be there for sure.

Thankyou, my friend, it cost me my whole holidays (and then some) and I am very proud. I better mention that Stacka, Rosco, Watto, Dawe, Youngy, Eli and a few others helped me bring it to life....It is in it's first evolution, wait until you see the changes I make after the first round, just to keep you on your toes. Were you out while I was riding (green Rocky Mountain)? I'm not sure if I caught up with you. If so, what were you riding?

I was riding a black iron horse dh team. I have been out to a few of your comps before, but I would have been riding a white craftworks frm125 (which my mate was riding on the weekend). Oh and i had my dog running around with me.
There were stacks of people out there so we sorta keep to out of the way.
Anyway top work.

The map on ClubMUD seems to have vanished, happy to give directions to anyone, call or email if the following doesn't hake sense:
From Melbourne, come into Ballarat as the built up area starts (first lights), there is a school on left (Ballarat East SC), Turn right towards Daylesford (Water St). Under bridge and 50 m further, turn left into Scott Pde. Follow 1-1.5km to roundabout with oval on right, turn right (Stawell St). Head about 1km (through r'bout) and turn right into Lofven St. Follow under the freeway overpass, all the way until the road turns into Monte St and ends at the Little Bendigo PS. Park and walk 300m up the fire trail. From there you are on your own, there are many tracks, most race tracks start at the same point, up the fire road, turn right and aim for the highest point (150m)
C U there

i was there on sunday for the first time and i just missed that sarah chicks stack by 1 sec but looked nasty.
--anyone there on monday or in the next few days check out the tree on the right of the first corner after that double road gap over the huge hole. trust me your see it, the one with bark missing. I hit the jump, nose dived, lost it, and hit the tree full speed and i hit the deck with my testicals in my mouth after smacking the stem with the old fella. my wrist is a bit farkt coz it got in the way of the tree and the handle bar. even better was i had to sell my bike the next day.(no probs though!)
i highly recomend it as long as your the one laughing at your mate at the end of the day.
see yous out when i get my new 05' stinky!!

im getting the run around at the moment. i was told 3 weeks ago its three weeks away in time to race at you yangs, 2 weeks later, yesterday, they said 2-3 weeks and you yangs are 2 and a bit weeks away so i might pushing it.
-i had to wait 3 1/2 months for a norco which they(remain nameless) originaly said was 3 weeks away form the time i orderd it, not there fault i know but it put me off from buying from them again. hopefuly it dosnt happen with Brunswick st cycles bcoz they seem like good blokes so far!!

Sorry, there won't be a hardtail class, we generally don't get the numbers making the trek to ballarat to justify too many classes. If you are new, ride novice, you will still kick the ass of many of the duallie riders in the class. As word spreads and numbers grow, so will the classes. See you there.

Best deal ever! 4 tracks for $25, that's only $6.25 per track... at Thredbo it works out to be like $10 PER RUN over the course of the weekend...

Minor correction 'S', in the summer series we will be running 3 tracks, unless there is a change of plan. In the heat, we thought people trying to practice 4 would be too much. Also, if we get big numbers, 4 is logistically a nightmare to fit in daylight with a bigger turnout. Each time we have to shift the finish line and setup timing it drags the day out.
Cheers for the post though, at $8.33 we still thing it is value. Weather is looking awesome, see you there
