i've heard the specialized frames are crap now as they are being manufactured in the same place as Merida frames somewhere in asia and not in the states...
Is this correct??? apparently the frame quality has gone down as well.

They haven't been made in the states for years mate.
It doesn't mater where the bike is made, people in Taiwan can weld just as well as Americans can, probably better infact.

Yep that's right. Now you know your frame was made in Taiwan it'll break on that next huck for sure. Best off just not riding it anymore. In fact, send me your dodgy Demo9 frames and I'll dispose of them in a way that will prevent them from ever harming anyone again.

This doesn't surprise me at all. A lot of bike companies are going off shore for there manufacture of their frames including Yeti. The main reason behind this is that it keeps the cost down by employing cheap labor which allows them to spend that money in other areas such as material research and development without inflicting the add burden to do this to you the consumer. Don’t be disillusioned by this, the quality control measure are still in place as well as warranties and when you look at some bike companies who make there bikes in the US and don’t offer warranties on there product such as Santa Cruz, than you be the judge.

Specialized have been made in Taiwan for years, and yes they're owned (and therefore manufactured) by Merida. However they are robot welded, which apparently few other frames are. As for the idea that Taiwan doesn't put out quality stuff... that's just dumb IMO. It doesn't have the prestige or pricetag of US or Canadian-made stuff, but that's not to say it doesn't have the same quality.
i 'heard' intense frames crack, but that couldnt be cos they are made in the U.S. the geographic posistioning relative to the sun enables americans to make better frames

Specialized frames are most likely better than a lot of frames out there as they offer a lifetime warranty. Just because it is made by Taiwanese does not mean it is of a lesser quality to an american brand. Don't you think that labelling all Taiwanese bikes as 'no good' is just a tad racist??

Nah, not so long ago the Taiwan-made bikes DID actually suck, I think it's more a legacy of that than anything. However they have the big factories, and as such, advance much faster than the Yanks do as far as construction goes... IMO.

Yeah thats true, yet I think people shouldn't be as ignorant as to call all Taiwan bikes crap. Having said that, I do understand why people don't like some of the Taiwanese bikes, as some are REALLY dodgy. But a high end brand like Specialized would not risk losing their revenue by making worse quality frames than when they were made in the USA
Forged parts, robot welded, yeh... reaaaaaaaaaaaal crap
Alot of the high-end stuff that comes out of Taiwan would be better quality than some (maybe most?) "Made in the yuuu esssssss ayyyyy" boutique brands.
The stigma of Asian made is yet to be erased, especially in America, but it's definately not justified in this day and age.
specialized and crap don't belong in the same sentence.
they haven't been made in the states for a long long time, someone needs to learn to read, research, whatever.
personally I really don't give a crap where it's made, as long as it's made well - and from experience, in my book, specialized are somewhere at the top of the pyramid.

Why? He will ride what ever he gets paid to ride. Thats why they employ these riders, to sell their bikes. Be careful with the hero worshiping.
