Any one heard the whole CD?
I'm going to see em live this Sunday Night at Panthers 10th
I've only heard (Hard act to follow.)
yeah their new album is heaps different to older ones, much softer and kind of 'pop' sounding, still pretty good but i think they are targeting a new audience.

Listening to it at the moment actually. Only like two songs, Hard act to follow and Bleed you dry. Bleed you dry is by far the best song on the album. Don't really like the style grinspoon are heading towards, but good on them for trying something different

i prefered there older styles like just ace and ready one etc. that was the grinspoon stuff i enjoyed.
the new stuff just isnt as good. same with spiderbait, regurgitator and silverchair.
aussie rock bands should stick to thier original styles.
yep! they wrote some of their songs with Unwritten Law. Scott Russo that is!!! :)

I completely disagree with that last bit. No band should have to conform to a style which they may have created, or that was created for them. I get the feeling that alot of acts that become even a little popular feel pressure to conform to the style that apealed to so many people. They shouldn't have to do that.
Interesting to note - Bong in my Eye (Regurgitator)was written a number of years ago.
And the first couple of Spiderbait singles I have liked so far. I also like Silverchair's Diaroma. It was quite different from the early stuff. Just because it was mostly different music coming from the band, doesn't mean it should be majorly discredited.

I haven't really been impressed with much of their stuff since Guide to Better Living. That album kicked ass! The new one seems kinda commercial and PERSONALLY I really don't like alot of the commercial rock on the radio at the moment. Don't get me wrong I think bands need to keep reinventing their sound, it shows their talent as musicians, not to mention it gets pretty repetitive listening to the same stuff over and over. Grinspoon are a great band i'm just not down with their choice of sound.

Agreed.
Are you the same person you were 2, 3 or 5 years ago? Music is VERY personal, it's a way for artists to let emotion and thought spill out for the public to hear. You can't possibly expet a band to feel the same way for their entire career, and it's selfish to demant and pressure a band to conform to who they were at the beginning of their career.
Artists don't write about being lonely when they have a wife and kids, it's about as important to them as bringing the kids back for the Vietnam war. It's over, and they're over it too. A lot of bands that are popular with the 15-30yr old demographic write their songs for them, and when they are popular and making money, all the better.
Just remember that, if a band was what the public expected and wanted them to be, we'd be in a world full of Shannon Noels and Celiene Dions, cause that what the majority of people want to listen to.
