reproducing any copyrighted material is illegal regardless of whether or not you are selling it, unless you have express written consent from the parties involved in the production.

actually you can get away with using copyrighted material if it's used in satire. It's very vague there but there is now a few precedents to support it.

why the hell do you want to do something like that.
what i want to know is...
1. Is any of your own footage in the movie your making?
2. Who are the riders in your movie going to be?
3. Are you goin to do something stupid like combine all of the runts movies again?
4. are you actually making a movie or just asking a general question?

there can be reasons. Like if, during an interview or voice over you mentioned a scene from another movie (usually only old movie and if it is personally related to you...IE an influence) then you could chuck it in safley....aslong as it wasn't a large chunk or an integral scene of the movie. Like you could show a quick flash of Palmer doing the Viper trail from chainsmoke....there is no law to support this, and yes you could be sued still, but it's generally accepted as you paying homage to the movie, rather than actually stealing form it.

You'd be suprised......it's unlikely, but these things can come back to haunt you.

its a dirt jumping video only. It has mostly new footage and a little bit of old footage. It will feature Josh, grant, mitch, tom, gromet, nick, birdy and i think thats it. And the question was just a general question
