Hey people,

Just asking whether any of you have any info as to whether the giant atx dh 2001 is a good or bad bike. Im looking at getting a 2nd hand one. Ive looked it over and given it a ride. I was just curious as to whether anyone knows something about the bike that seems to happen or effect this type of bike?

like pros and cons?

(sorry if its a edit:stoopid question, just asking for help cause im thinking of buying it to get into dh riding)

Cheers, benny

Hi Ben,

I had one (as did half the racing scene in 2000/2001) pretty solid bike, just check the play in the linkage at the back.

I dont think you will come across too many people that weren't happy with them, technology just moved on and people bought DH Comp's!

Trading post eh, tell 'im he's dreamin ;)
Nah, seriously, they are solid bikes, still see quite a few kicking around today. They had HUUGGGEEEE, Daryll Eastlake sized pivots, and a fairly durable design for shock placement. Just give it a really thorough check over for cracks and paint blemishes (such as wrinkles), and make sure all bearings are in a usable state. Any sort of looseness/play in forks, rear end, wheels, cranks, headset etc is no good, be wary of that.

There have been a few over the years cracking the chainstay....but a lot out there being ridden hard. If I had only $1500-$1800 to spend on a very capable S/H DH rig, I would be thinking about one too...

My mate used to have one and it never gave him any problems.

"Gaint"...?

is this an otherwise-sexually-oriented version of "Saint" or something?

sorry if its a gay question

I'm doing my best to remain politically correct here... :?

to add something constructive...

Regardless of its age, the ATX continues to be a well designed rig.
The fact that it remained relatively unchanged for so many years is testament to its quality - if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Big pivots, gussets where they were needed, and a reasonably efficient pedalling design - and released when URTs were still popular.... god knows why...

do the usual checks for wear and cracks as already listed here - if it comes out OK, go for it.
