well, this new technolgy is great. im not sure who here has used it (apart from me) but i love it. i can keep track of all the major news networks at the click of a feed button.
so what does this have to do with farkin.
why would you want to load the forums page constantly to see if your topics have been updated or posted to?
it can be a pain in the butt, if youre on dial up, and now there is a new way.
RSS feeds.
basically, it breaks down like this.
using an aggregator or "news reader" a person can subscribe (free btw) to any channels they wish, and will get a constant update on all news stories and forum posts that occur.
for example. i have a subscription to the BBCs feed, and each time a new article appears on the website, i am notified.
in the news reader i have (newsfire for OS X), i am updated every 5 mintues on what articles have been posted. in the program, i am given a heading, and a quick two line blurb on the article. if i then wish to read it, i click on the link and it takes me to a page with the full article on it.
now on farkin, i live in OT and general MTB most of the time, and im constantly hitting F5 to refresh the page to see what has been posted, and most of the time, i get the same results i did last time i refreshed.
if we had RSS feeds for each forum, then it would be easier for me to wait till the news reader updated, showing me what was new and what not.
on another forum i visit macaddict forums (http://macaddict.com/phpbb2/index.php) is considering RSS as an option for users. here is the thread (http://www.macaddict.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=73777) about it.
anyways, id be interested in getting this working. so if the mods are happy to have a bit of a poke under the hood, then id be happy to help/test.
just a suggestion.
